Sun State is a fast-growing commercial landscape company that is adding multiple maintenance crews each year. We are committed to developing our next generation of Crew Leaders from within our organization. As an Assistant Crew Leader, you will work alongside an experienced Crew Leader to learn Sun State's quality standards, leadership expectations, equipment practices, and approach to commercial landscape maintenance. This position is designed for someone who has solid commercial landscape maintenance experience and wants the opportunity to grow into a Crew Leader position. Responsibilities Work alongside the Crew Leader to ensure assigned commercial properties meet Sun State's quality standards. Learn how to organize and direct the daily activities of a five-person commercial landscape maintenance crew. Assist the Crew Leader in training crew members on proper landscape maintenance techniques and safe equipment operation. Learn to recognize quality issues and correct them before the crew leaves the property. Perform commercial landscape maintenance activities including mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, pruning, weed control, and landscape detail work. Learn the safe and proper operation of commercial landscape equipment, including 36" to 72" commercial mowers, string trimmers, edgers, blowers, hedge trimmers, and other maintenance equipment. Assist with landscape bed weed control, including the use of a backpack sprayer in accordance with company procedures and applicable requirements. Perform proper pruning of shrubs and small ornamental trees. Develop knowledge of common turf types, shrubs, trees, and landscape plants found in Jacksonville and Northeast Florida. Learn to identify and communicate irrigation, plant health, turf, equipment, and other property needs to the Crew Leader and appropriate support staff. Help maintain an organized, professional, and clean truck and equipment. Assist with routine equipment inspections and communicate maintenance or repair needs. Learn and properly use the company's mobile timekeeping system. Follow company safety policies and proper equipment operating procedures. Demonstrate the integrity, fairness, accountability, and work ethic expected of future Sun State Crew Leaders. Be prepared to assume additional leadership responsibilities as knowledge and experience grow. Experience & Qualifications 1-2 years of experience working on a commercial landscape maintenance crew preferred. Previous Crew Leader or supervisory experience is not required. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required. Experience operating commercial mowing and landscape maintenance equipment. Basic knowledge of commercial landscape maintenance practices, including mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, and weed control. Experience using a backpack sprayer for landscape bed weed control is preferred. Basic knowledge of common Northeast Florida turf types and landscape plant material is a plus. Strong attention to detail and pride in producing quality work. Dependable, responsible, and able to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to communicate effectively with the Crew Leader, managers, and other team members. Willingness to learn, accept coaching, take on additional responsibility, and develop leadership skills. Experience using a mobile timekeeping or workforce management application is a plus. Work Schedule This is a full-time, year-round position. Work schedules vary seasonally and may consist of either five 8-hour days or four 10-hour days, depending on the time of year and operational needs. This position requires working outdoors year-round in the Northeast Florida climate. Physical Requirements & Work Environment The essential functions of this position require the employee, with or without reasonable accommodation, to: Work outdoors for extended periods throughout the year in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, direct sunlight, cold, and rain. Regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive physical activities associated with commercial landscape maintenance. Walk commercial properties and uneven terrain for extended periods. Safely handle and operate landscape maintenance tools and equipment. Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Wear required personal protective equipment and follow company safety procedures. Perform the physical activities necessary to complete commercial landscape maintenance work throughout the workday. Our goal is to develop Assistant Crew Leaders who are prepared to step into Crew Leader positions as those opportunities become available.

Pay:

$18.00 - $19.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
