Job Description

The purpose of the class is to perform routine manual work. This class is responsible for service work and routine grounds maintenance such as mowing, edging, weed-eating, blowing, litter removal, digging trenches; assists with installation and repair of fixtures such as pipes, valves and fittings; landscape, road, sidewalk, driveway restoration and other outdoor work. Completing logs or routine records. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision. Operates vehicles such as trucks to haul people or material to job sites. Loads and unloads materials such as sod, mulch, gravel, dirt, timber, chemicals, or other materials, tools, and equipment. Performs maintenance duties as assigned. Maintains outdoor areas by cutting grass, pruning trees and bushes, raking leaves and debris, and other maintenance tasks. Performs irrigation service work such as digging trenches; assists with installation and repair of fixtures such as pipes, valves, nozzles and fittings. Performs maintenance functions such as greasing equipment, replacing filters, replacing valves; performs light repairs and installations as directed. Maintains indoor areas such as cleaning facilities and indoor areas, performing light maintenance such as painting and minor repairs. Assists the public by answering questions and providing routine information. Services equipment to ensure for the proper operation of the equipment utilized. Performs clerical tasks such as completing work orders or maintaining logs. Performs assigned duties as needed and requested.
ON STANDBY STATUS.
Requires three (3) years or more of general maintenance and manual work experience. Previous experience working in a grounds maintenance position preferred. Performs semi-routine work solving occasional problems. Performs basic addition and subtraction, such as counting or measuring. Reads basic sentences, instructions, or work orders; writes basic sentences and completes uncomplicated job forms; speaks sentences using basic grammar. Performs manual tasks prescribed by standard practices but which may require computation, the use of several procedures, and the use of independent judgment with obvious choices; requires normal attention for accurate results Computer knowledge, basic ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Requires a valid State of Florida Class E license at time of hire and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. Green Industries, Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) Certification preferred. No special skills or equipment certification are required.
