The Humane Society of Greater Miami (referred to as "Company") is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of animals in need. Our mission is to provide compassionate care, advocacy, and support for animals while educating the community about responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Facilities & Maintenance Assistant supports the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and management of buildings, equipment, and workspaces, ensuring facilities are safe, clean, and fully functional for employees and visitors. This role includes coordinating repairs, handling office moves, managing supplies, assisting with vendors, responding to maintenance requests, and transporting animals to clinics, adoption events, and partner organizations. Every day is active, varied, and makes a meaningful impact!
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform routine maintenance and basic repairs (painting, patching, fixtures) Set up and rearrange workspaces and meeting areas Maintain cleanliness and organization of common areas Assist with groundskeeping tasks (trash removal, pressure washing, walkways) Coordinate vendor visits and monitor on-site work Safely transport animals and always ensure humane handling Support special projects and other facilities-related tasks as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Florida driver's license with a clean record Experience in maintenance, facilities work, or hands-on technical support preferred Comfortable handling animals and following proper care procedures Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs., work indoors and outdoors Dependable, flexible, and team-oriented Basic plumbing, electrical, or HVAC knowledge a plus Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Lifting and carrying equipment and animals over 50 pounds. Walking and standing for prolonged periods depending on the task. Frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, squatting, and stooping. Ability to work in environments that may have animals and animal-related hazards.
