Required Screenings:

Will be discussed with applicant; Drug Free Workplace. Maintenance and manual work in various activities performing grounds maintenance at City-owned buildings and grounds, parks, and transportation right-of-way areas and traffic control systems. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Works Foreman. The Maintenance II position requires the completion of, at a minimum, one (1) year employment as Maintenance I, unless otherwise approved by the City Manager. During occasions of local emergencies, this position shall be required to perform emergency tasks which may result in extended work hours as well as extended periods of time away from family members.

Position Functions:

Performs routine grounds maintenance such as mowing, edging, weed eating, trimming, mulching, weeding, and planting. Remove dying/diseased trees from City parks, City properties, right-of-way areas, and roadway medians. Work from a bucket truck to trim and remove tree branches or palm fronds obstructing pedestrian or vehicular traffic or traffic signs. Perform routine ditch maintenance and inspections. Complete proper inspection form and submit to Stormwater Technician. Maintenance and repairs of playground equipment. Maintenance and repairs of parks equipment such as shelters, gazebos, picnic tables, park benches and bench swings. Maintenance and repairs of basketball courts. Maintenance and repairs of tennis courts. Assists with the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems. Assists with maintenance and repair of pond and lake fountains. Operates various types and sizes of trucks and motorized equipment. Serves as a lead worker over Maintenance I employee when assigned to do so. Performs manual labor such as digging and lifting. Loads and unloads materials from trucks and moves or assists in moving heavy equipment. Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to Supervisor. Cleans and checks tools and equipment after use. Serves as a lead worker over Maintenance I employee when assigned to do so. Demonstrates knowledge of all departmental/divisional policies and procedures and the City's Personnel Policies and Procedures. Communicates between assigned personnel, other employees throughout the City, and the general public. Performs other job related duties that are consistent with assigned Department responsibilities. Must have working knowledge of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) procedures. Must have working knowledge of Best Management Practices (BMP) procedures. Must have working knowledge of Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector procedures. Responds to emergency situations and assists with solving problems as they arise.

Additional Responsibilities:

May assist Streets & Stormwater Department with various tasks such as pothole repairs, roadway repairs, storm drain repairs and other related tasks. May assist Facilities Department with interior and exterior building repairs. Sets up Recreation Center, Council Chambers, Community Building Parkview Room, and other City facilities to accommodate special meetings and seating requirements. Assists with City special events and seasonal activities such as setting up and working during City events and installing and removing Christmas decorations throughout the City. Attends workshops and training courses.

Tools and Equipment Used:

Tools and equipment used include, but are not limited to: pickup truck, dump truck, utility truck, water truck, bucket truck, truck trailer, forklift, tractor, backhoe, front end loader, arrow board, mower, edger, weed eater, chainsaw, chipper, message boards, and other power tools.

Work Environment:

Works inside and outside in varying and inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time with noise, dust, fumes, grease, oil, electrical energy, heat, and cold conditions. Ability to work in confined spaces. Works on slippery and uneven surfaces. Works in transportation right-of-way areas with moving objects or vehicles. Works at heights of up to thirty (30) to forty (40) feet. Performs physical tasks while walking, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, lifting, reaching, etc.; Will be discussed with applicant.
