Job Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
This classification is responsible for assisting in the construction, repair, maintenance of City roadways. This position is subject to be included in the off-hours, on-call response service.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIESEssential Functions:
Performs repairs and maintenance operations on city rights-of-way or property; typical work will consist of:

Litter and illegal dumping removalAssist with the installation of concreteDigs trenches, cleans catch basins, manholesClears debris from roadwaysRemoves dead animals from roadway and rights-of-wayOperates equipment such as but not limited to chainsaws, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, chipper, mowers, tractors, etc.

Performs maintenance and construction tasks for asphalt paving and repair operations:

Typical work will consist of shoveling asphalt or gravel to patch potholesFlags traffic at construction and maintenance projectsPerforms roadside tree and vegetation control and emergency hazard responsePerforms and assist with inclement weather removal within the roadway and rights-of-wayPerforms all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standardsOperates a city vehicle and or equipment; conducts pre- and post-trip inspections including checking all fluids, gauges, lighting, mirrors, tires, body damage, seats and seatbelts, and cleanliness of assigned vehicle.

Conducts general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition.

Maintains inventory of equipment, parts and supplies: initiates orders materials and equipment needed for each job; conducts routine safety inspections on equipment; advises supervisor of needed repairs.

Ensures compliance with all applicable code, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment.

Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND
TRAININGHigh School Diploma or GED requiredOne (1) year of experience in grounds keeping, maintenance, custodial or related fieldAny equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Drivers License. Other certifications may be required upon employment.

Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Sensory Requirements:
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or rude/irate customers.
