Job Description
SUMMARY This position performs airport grounds maintenance and snow removal duties, utilizing a variety of motor vehicles and power equipment. Performs minor repairs to Airport grounds, roads, and buildings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.- Maintains Airport grounds, including mowing, trimming, filling, clearing, and grading. Maintains landscaping around public areas of the airport.
- Operates various equipment including specialized airport snow removal equipment, heavy construction equipment, dump trucks, backhoes, and front-end loaders.
- Performs minor repairs on runway and taxiway pavements and maintains pavement joints, and seals, and pavement markings.
- Performs minor repairs and maintains Airport streets and shoulders.
- Assists in the maintenance of airport owned buildings and equipment, including but not limited to replacing light bulbs, painting, and basic building maintenance.
- Performs inspections, maintenance, and repair of grounds, facilities, and equipment.
- Maintains equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Reports irregularities and abnormal conditions.
- Performs duties in accordance with the Airport's safety rules and operating regulations and practices.
- Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
- Ability to perform assigned tasks independently involving proper use of equipment.
- Ability to properly handle the equipment used in the work.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance.
- Ability to use a two-way radio and effectively communicate with the air traffic control tower.
- Knowledge of building material selection and application.
- Knowledge of building hardware and its maintenance.
- Ability to perform basic computer operations, including use of email using Microsoft Outlook.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School or equivalent required.
- At least 1 year of work experience utilizing equipment in facility and/or grounds maintenance or construction.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an airport-issued security ID badge.
- Must be available to be on-call and respond timely after hours when designated, and in the event of recall for weather related events and emergencies.
- Possess, or ability to obtain, an Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.
