Job Description

Introduction:
Columbus Parks and Recreation works to enhance our community's quality of life by maintaining our parks, trails, and green spaces. Currently, Columbus Parks and Recreation is growing and managing over 1,000 acres of park land, 24 parks, and 27 miles of trails to help attract tourism and new businesses, provide welcome spaces for community members to gather, and create safe places for our community members to play and be healthy. As a member of the Parks and Recreation team, you will be vital in promoting these amenities to all community members. We recently added the NexusPark facilities and grounds to our management umbrella. The City of Columbus and Parks and Recreation has collaborated with Columbus Regional Health to develop the former Fair Oaks Mall into a health and wellness hub for our community members and visitors. Employee Benefits:

Summary of Functional Responsibilities:
  • Plan, execute and evaluate the daily maintenance and custodial operations of the facility Specific Duties of the
Position:
  • Hands-on supervision and support of the efforts of full-time and part-time employees
  • Carry out, evaluate and improve management plans for all facilities and grounds
  • Develop a strong working relationship with on-site managers
  • Train, supervise and follow up on daily job assignments. See that standard procedures are followed
  • Motivate, lead and evaluate the performance of direct reports
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and other items needed to carry out management plans
  • Review with Parks Operations Facilities Supervisor all charting and inspection sheets
  • Assist with recruitment, selection and training for vacant positions
  • Give input on the development of the annual operating and capital improvement budget; manage budgeted funds
  • Must be proficient with technology, including the ability to operate computers, software applications, and the department's work order management system
  • Pursue continuous improvement in all phases of maintenance
  • Provide the highest quality customer service and facility care
  • Represent the Parks and Recreation Department and FFY in a professional and friendly manner
  • Must have good attitude and neat, clean appearance. Required to wear uniform per Department policy
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Some hands-on experience preferred
  • Understand facility maintenance
Judgment:
  • Work is at high degree of difficulty and diplomacy
Supervisory Responsibility:
  • Manages two full-time employees and one part-time employee
Relationships Responsibility:
  • Must be able to work with customers and fellow employees to keep service at the highest standard possible
Working Conditions:
  • Exposure to more than ordinary conditions
  • Considerable physical effort
  • Frequent exposure to weather, dirt and dust
  • Hours will vary and days will vary. Overtime work (over 40 hours), weekends, and Holidays are sometimes required
  • Position is safety sensitive and subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy which requires post-employment offer, pre-employment testing, random testing, post-accident testing, and reasonable suspicion testing
  • Criminal Background Checks are required
Essential Physical Requirements:
  • Use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects
  • Lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects weighing 50 pounds or greater on a daily, weekly or monthly basis
  • Move two or more limbs together (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while remaining in place
  • Make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls
  • See details of objects that are less than a few feet away and more than a few feet away
  • Work for extended periods without getting tired or out of breath
  • Bend, stretch, twist, or reach out
  • Sufficient balance to climb and remain on ladders and other equipment safely
  • Use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects
  • Adjust body movements or equipment controls to keep pace with speed changes of moving objects Must reside in Bartholomew County or adjoining county within six (6) months of employment.
