Overview:

The intern will gain experience in all areas of the feedyard. Essential functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Cattle Processing and Health Complete the riding/walking of assigned pens, identify cattle to be pulled and reasons Assist with treatment of cattle by administering appropriate medications per veterinarian's recommendations and understand drug withdrawal. Assist with the processing of cattle by administering appropriate vaccines, implants Complete the shipping and receiving of cattle Understand feeder cattle sorting and finished cattle shipping Assign lot and pen numbers to feeder cattle. Complete paperwork associated with cattle receipts Other duties as assigned Feed/Mill Department Operate feed truck and hay truck, perform maintenance on both Process grain and perform some mill maintenance Read feed bunks and call feed Assist in one end-of-month commodity inventory Correctly complete paperwork associated with bunk management Correctly perform feed department related tasks on information systems Yard Maintenance Understand pen cleaning procedures and importance, operate pen cleaning equipment where applicable Operate all other yard equipment in a safe and competent manner. Assist with maintenance repairs, understand importance of preventative maintenance Other duties as assigned. Competencies Adaptability

Supervisory responsibilities None Work environment Regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions and the noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud. Physical demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to focus. Travel required Minimal Required education and experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three month's related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
