Mon-Fri and rotating weekend on calls Position Summary We are seeking a dependable and hands-on Maintenance Assistant to join our team at a skilled nursing facility. The Maintenance Assistant will support the Maintenance Director with the upkeep, repair, safety, and general maintenance of the facility, grounds, equipment, and resident areas. The ideal candidate is reliable, safety-conscious, able to work independently, and comfortable working in a healthcare environment where maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable setting for residents is a priority. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist with routine repairs and preventive maintenance throughout the facility. Perform basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general maintenance tasks. Help maintain resident rooms, common areas, offices, bathrooms, and other facility spaces. Inspect and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, and equipment problems. Assist with maintenance of heating, cooling, ventilation, and other building systems. Maintain facility grounds, including basic landscaping, snow removal, and exterior upkeep as needed. Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and supplies. Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance areas in an organized and safe condition. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders. Follow all facility safety policies, infection-control procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements. Assist with emergency maintenance situations when needed. Work cooperatively with nursing, housekeeping, dietary, administration, and other departments. Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Director or Administrator. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, construction, or a related field preferred. Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general repairs. Ability to use common hand and power tools safely. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, and vendors. Ability to prioritize work and respond to urgent maintenance needs. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and supplies as required. Previous experience in a healthcare, nursing home, assisted living, or long-term care setting is a plus. Physical Requirements The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, and working in various areas of the facility. The employee must be able to safely perform the physical duties associated with general facility maintenance.
