City Maintenance Laborer Augusta , ME 04330
The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, can perform physically demanding tasks, and is committed to providing quality service to the community.
Responsibilities Assist with paving, street maintenance, and general construction projects. Perform labor associated with winter maintenance of streets, sidewalks, and parking lots, including snow and ice operations. Support city rubbish collection operations as needed. May be assigned to the Hatch Hill Solid Waste Facility or Parks and Cemeteries crews. Repair and maintain sidewalks, roads, and crosswalk striping. Operate street sweeping equipment and assist with brush removal, mowing, weed-whacking, and catch basin cleaning. Perform general construction and maintenance work for Public Works projects. Use and perform daily maintenance on hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment. Operate tools and equipment including shovels, rakes, hot top lutes, jackhammers, compactors, weed-whackers, pole saws, and other maintenance equipment. Follow all safety procedures and workplace regulations. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Working knowledge of basic construction, maintenance, and earthwork practices preferred. Understanding of safety precautions associated with construction labor, winter operations, and commercial garage environments. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to work independently and travel to assigned job sites. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and the public. Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry objects weighing 50 pounds or more. Ability to bend, push, pull, reach, and perform physical labor for extended periods. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. Ability to make coordinated movements and safely operate tools and equipment.
