Job Description

The Public Works Department in Saco is seeking a Mechanic's Helper to assist mechanics with intricate electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical repair and servicing operations. This individual will perform lubrication, fluid and filter changes on assigned vehicles and equipment with little to no supervision (some familiarization training may be provided). They will help mechanics accomplish servicing, repairs, inspections and seasonal reconfigurations of vehicles and equipment and document the findings and results. Salary for this full-time, benefitted position is $29.33 per hour Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assist with winter operations to include clearing snow around Public Works facilities using a side walk tractor, walk-behind snow blower and/or hand tools. Assist mechanics with repairs, servicing and maintenance of assigned City and school department vehicles and equipment. Help keep the garage and related areas clean and organized. Ability to be trained to Maine Class C Oil Storag Tank Operator standards within 120 days, and retain currency. Ability to perform basic maintenance tasks independently, without constant supervision. Conduct him/herself in an orderly and courteous manner. Clearly document maintenance actions taken and pending in writing. Performs other related work as required.
