Job description Under the general supervision of the Department of Public Works, employee performs a variety of functions related to street, water, and sewer maintenance. Activities include snow removal, patching streets, water and sewer hook-ups, painting, and various other maintenance functions. Employee operates trucks, mowers, dump trucks, back-hoe, jet truck, snowplows, and other heavy equipment. Also serves in an on-call basis, to assist worker[s] in responding to emergency situations. Operates dump trucks, snow plows, jet truck, back-hoe, fork lift, tractors, pickups with snow plows, air hammers, tapping machines, tub grinders, cement cutting saws, chain saws, and other heavy equipment. Works on a street maintenance crew to patch and repair potholes, leaf removal, installs traffic & street signs, cleaning & repair of catch basins & manholes, street & parking lot measuring & markings, replacement & installation of water & sewer lines, cleanup after storm damage, regular maintenance checks of City vehicles & equipment, and completes regular daily work orders and reports as required. Serves in an on-call capacity to assist one or more other maintenance staff in responding to calls regarding water breaks, sewer back-ups, and related matters of an emergency nature. High school Diploma or equivalent. Prefer advanced trades skills, coursework and prior maintenance experience with operation of similar equipment. Must be DOT certified with a Class A - CDL Driver's License, or eligible to obtain one within 6 months of employment, and pass DOT physical. Non-exempt, Full Time Ability to withstand prolonged: walking, standing, sitting, climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and working in confined spaces. Ability to carry and/or assist with moving tools and equipment, weighing from 80 to 200 lbs. Ability to drive large trucks, tractors, and operate other heavy equipment. Exposure to wastewater, methane gas, toxic fumes and pathogens, chemicals, heavy traffic, walking and/or driving on slippery surfaces, various weather conditions which can be extreme, confined spaces and exposure to high level of noise. Ability to work in all types of weather including extreme hot or cold, wind, rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow—some of which may be heavy at times.
