Job Summary :

The Ferguson Public Works Department is seeking motivated candidates with the ability to work as part of a team for the position of Maintenance Worker . This position involves performing a variety of tasks in the maintenance, repair, and construction of city streets, buildings, and parks. Duties include the operation of motorized equipment, use of hand tools, and performing heavy physical labor. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Public Works Director or other supervisors and is reviewed through observation for completeness and quality.

Key Responsibilities :

Operate various types of equipment for maintenance, repair, and construction tasks on roads, sidewalks, curbs, and related facilities. Use trucks, mowers, hand, and power tools, including a 2-1/2 ton truck with or without a snowplow. Perform semiskilled building maintenance and repairs, including painting, plumbing, electrical, and masonry work. Maintain public buildings and facilities by cleaning, performing preventive checks, and conducting basic repairs. Carry out landscaping tasks, such as mowing, seeding, planting, trimming, and applying pesticides. Conduct park and right-of-way maintenance, including trash removal, tree planting, ball field preparation, pool maintenance, and more. Assist in road maintenance by mixing and pouring cement, repairing asphalt, patching potholes, and sidewalks. Set up and break down equipment for special events. Clean and perform minor repairs on tools and equipment. Ensure equipment is used safely and according to established procedures. Perform heavy physical labor such as loading/unloading trucks and attaching accessories (e.g., plows). Maintain records of work performed and equipment used. Be available for emergency call-outs on a 24-hour basis when required. Promote and maintain positive community relations and provide excellent customer service. Adhere to safe work practices at all times.

Qualifications :

High School diploma or GED. Experience in maintenance, repair, or related work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of hand tools, equipment, and materials used in maintenance, repair, and construction. Basic knowledge of electricity, plumbing, carpentry, and landscaping. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods in various weather conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Valid Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Class E license within 90 days of hire. CDL preferred but not required.

Physical Demands :

The physical demands of this job include regular use of hands to handle tools and equipment, standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds. The employee must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet/humid conditions, and vibrations. Occasionally, the employee may be exposed to fumes, chemicals, or risk of electrical shock.
