ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS

Assists with solid waste collection tasks; Works as a member of a yard waste or bulk item collection crew to collect refuse, debris, furniture, appliances and yard waste from roadsides; Operates pressure washer; applies cleaning chemicals to remove graffiti; Sets up traffic control to ensure safety of work zone, special event, and emergency situation; Performs preventive maintenance and makes minor repairs to equipment; inspects equipment; Uses a variety of hand tools and equipment in performance of tasks, such as chainsaw, weed-eater, edger; Adheres to safety policies and procedures; May operate dump truck, tractor mower, knuckleboom, leaf vacuum, and other motorized equipment in solid waste division; May assist with snow removal and ice control; Performs related tasks as required. Qualifications General knowledge of traffic services and the ability to set up traffic control to ensure safety of work zone, special event, and emergency situations, street drainage, landscape areas and related construction, maintenance and repair procedures, and knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment to which assigned; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions, to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. Special Requirements Position requires a NC Class B or Class A CDL. Candidates who do not possess a Class B or Class A CDL are encouraged to apply and will be given the opportunity to obtain the CDL within a specific time limit set by the City of Sanford according to FMCSA requirements. Non CDL holders will be hired as a Maintenance Worker I and compensated at a salary that is commensurate with the license.
