Job Description
The Road Operator performs a variety of skilled manual tasks and operates all types of equipment in highway maintenance activities. The worker will be assigned to a crew under the direction of a foreman or assistant foreman and will be assigned to various specialized tasks that may be performed independently. Essential Job Functions Operate all types of general maintenance equipment such as: trucks, rollers, front-end loaders, tractors, motor graders, snowplows, backhoes, and distributors.
Operate specialized equipment such as:
semi-truck trailers, chip spreaders, welders and/or similar equivalent type equipment. Perform preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and assist in the servicing and repair. Perform manual labor such as patching, sign repair, erecting and taking down snow fence, bridge and culvert repair, loading, and unloading materials. During inclement weather, this position may be required to work additional hours other than regular working hours. All other duties as assigned. Preferred Talents Knowledge of use, operation, maintenance, and minor repair of all maintenance equipment employed. Knowledge of the methods and materials used in the type of construction on which the equipment is operated, or the work is performed. Ability to carry out written or oral instructions without constant direct supervision. Ability to do heavy manual work in hazardous locations under varying climatic conditions. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Valid state of Nebraska motor vehicle operator's license. Possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred. Physical Requirements A considerable amount of physical activity, including walking, standing, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. This position must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 60 lbs. Coordination and manual dexterity is necessary to operate hand and power tools and equipment involved in the maintenance and repair of public facilities. This position must be able to set up, climb, and operate while using free-standing ladders. All new hires must pass a pre-employment drug screening. Working Environment Includes contact with dust, dirt, cleaning solvents, and difficult people. Work may be performed outdoors year-round and in inclement weather and requires the ability to tolerate a work environment that includes contact with acids, dirt, cleaning, solvent, and bacteria. Exposure to noise, heat, grease, and stationary and mobile equipment with moving parts.Job Type:
