Job Description
: Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the operation, construction, maintenance and repair of City streets, storm drainage systems, and related facilities. : Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required. Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Spread asphalt to patch and repair streets; perform emergency street light repairs. Use concrete cutting and breaking equipment; operate a jackhammer, pour and finish concrete; construct concrete forms; perform other rough carpentry work. Clean and perform routine maintenance on catch basins and storm drainpipes; make repairs as necessary. Set up and maintain proper work zone traffic control. Assist in signal installation and other repair activities as assigned. Paint or stencil traffic directional markings including crosswalks, safety loading zones, bus stops, parking and center lines and railroad and school crossings; maintain, clean and repair painting equipment and stencils. Fertilize vegetation and apply herbicides as required; install and maintain irrigation systems. Install and maintain guardrails, dead end barricades and bridges; maintain pumps and floodgates in support of flood control activities. Participate in activities involved in patching and repairing all types of street failures; assist in crack sealing activities. Lay out, fabricate and install regulatory, guide, warning and construction signs; straighten and reset street signs; build and install barricades as necessary. May assist in the operation of construction and maintenance equipment such as trucks, tractors, and loaders for a variety of construction and maintenance operations in the assigned area of responsibility. Perform snow removal and ice control on roadways using equipment such as dump truck with plow, front-end loader, skid steer, pickup with plow, and salt truck. May also perform snow removal from parking lots and sidewalks using snow blower, shovel, and walk behind material spreader. Utilize a variety of hand and power tools; assist in routine maintenance of such equipment. Perform routine preventive maintenance on tools and equipment as assigned. Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed. Perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks involving the maintenance, construction and repair of street and storm drainage facilities. May assist in other sections of the Department as necessary. Perform related duties as assigned. :
