A Maintenance Helper or Assistant assists maintenance mechanics. Repairs and maintains equipment and machines, such as cars or heating systems. May assemble or adjust machines as directed by a head mechanic.
The Town of New London Public Works Department is seeking an individual to join its team in a full-time Highway Maintenance II role. This position involves hands-on work supporting essential public works operations and helping maintain the town's infrastructure and services. Performs semi-skilled manual labor including road work, equipment operation, grounds maintenance, and snow removal operations. The role is primarily outdoors in all weather conditions and requires a strong level of physical stamina.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Road Maintenance:
Pavement patching, drainage work, tree and brush removal, striping, roadside mowing, and sign installation.
Stormwater Management:
Clearing and maintaining culverts, drains, and ditches.
Winter Maintenance:
Snow plowing, shoveling, salting, and sanding.
Facility Maintenance:
Ground mowing, seasonal cleanup, event setup, and general cleaning.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
Operating and maintaining trucks, tractors, loaders, and other equipment.
Departmental Collaboration:
Assisting other Public Works divisions (solid waste, cemeteries, wastewater, facilities) and town departments as needed. Commitment to

QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED. Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions. Working knowledge of common tools and equipment. Ability to work independently or collaboratively, while following direction and established procedures.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION A
valid New Hampshire Commercial Driver's License is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Pay:
$25.21 - $30.72 per hour
