School Maintenance Assistant

Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and energetic School Maintenance Assistant to work from 10am-6pm Monday-Friday to ensure the safety, functionality, and cleanliness of our educational facilities. In this vital role, you will be responsible for maintaining building systems, performing repairs, and supporting the overall upkeep of the school environment. Your proactive approach and technical skills will help create a welcoming, safe, and efficient space for students, staff, and visitors. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your maintenance expertise while contributing to a positive school community. Responsibilities Perform routine inspections and maintenance of electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC units, and building interior components to ensure optimal operation. Conduct repairs using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment such as schematics and ohmmeters. Maintain facilities equipment including HVAC systems, plumbing systems, electrical equipment, and mechanical systems. Carry out carpentry tasks such as maintenance painting, drywall repair, and building interior improvements. Carry out daily cleaning duties such as trash removal and mopping and sanitation Troubleshoot issues and implement solutions. Support safety protocols by inspecting facilities for hazards and performing preventative maintenance to minimize risks. Collaborate with team members to complete maintenance requests efficiently while providing excellent customer service to staff and students. Follow schematics and technical manuals for complex repairs involving electrical work or HVAC system repair. Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs performed, and parts used in compliance with MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations) standards. Experience Proven experience in facilities maintenance or a related field with hands-on skills in electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, or HVAC repair. Familiarity with schematics, technical manuals, and troubleshooting is highly desirable. Knowledge of mechanical systems Ability to operate hand tools safely and effectively while adhering to safety protocols. Strong mechanical knowledge combined with experience in building maintenance. Excellent communication skills in English for clear documentation and effective teamwork. Leadership qualities that enable guidance on maintenance projects or training new team members are a plus.
