Position Summary The Town of Wawarsing is seeking a qualified individual to fill a full-time Water/Wastewater Maintenance Worker position within the Water/Wastewater Department. This position performs skilled and semi-skilled work involving the maintenance and repair of the Town's water and wastewater systems and related facilities. The successful candidate will work both independently and as part of a crew performing maintenance, repair, installation, inspection, and related duties throughout the Town's water and wastewater systems.

Typical Duties Include:

Inspecting water and wastewater systems, including lines, pumps, motors, engines, and related equipment Repairing, cleaning, testing, and installing meters Maintaining and lubricating pumping equipment Maintaining and repairing equipment used at water and wastewater treatment facilities Maintaining and repairing buildings, well houses, pump houses, hydrants, gates, mains, and pumps Installing, maintaining, and repairing water and wastewater lines, pump stations, force mains, service lines, and water meters Participating in maintenance and repair operations, including opening and closing road surfaces as necessary Performing grounds maintenance, including mowing, raking, and snow and ice removal Operating motorized equipment associated with water and wastewater system maintenance, as assigned Locating water mains and operating tapping equipment Performing other related duties as assigned This role is perfect for candidates passionate about environmental stewardship, technical problem-solving, and maintaining vital water infrastructure in a fast-moving utility environment. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must possess one year of experience in construction, public works maintenance, or plumbing work. High school or vocational school training, or a formal apprenticeship in plumbing, may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Candidates who operate motor equipment must possess the appropriate level of valid New York State driver's license. Preferred Qualification NYSDEC Grade 2A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification is preferred. Civil Service Classification This is a non-competitive Civil Service position. Work Location This position may be assigned to Town of Wawarsing Water/Wastewater facilities located throughout the Town, including Kerhonkson, Wawarsing, and Napanoch. Work Schedule This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position. The regular work schedule is Wednesday through Sunday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Compensation Salary is per union contract. Employees who possess or obtain a NYSDEC Grade 2A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification will receive an additional $10,000 annual stipend, paid in quarterly installments.
