Title Maintenance Assistant

Position Summary Join our Maintenance Trades team and play an important role in keeping our campus facilities safe, functional, and well maintained. As a Maintenance Assistant, you will be responsible for processing all work order requests received, and handling them accurately and timely. The Maintenance Trades department is part of the Administration & Finance Division, which provides essential services to campus constituents as well as local, state, federal, and international partners.

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

In this hands-on position, you will complete various work orders and perform semiskilled maintenance and repair work on structures and equipment, including areas such as plumbing, electrical, masonry, and carpentry. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Managing work orders from initial request through completion

Assessing job requirements and selecting the appropriate tools, equipment, and materials for assigned tasks

Operating vehicles, tools, and equipment required to perform assigned duties, safely and effectively

Assisting with snow and ice removal

Following established procedures, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements

Using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for assigned tasks

Participating in job-related training and professional development opportunities

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have:

Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program

•; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

When required to operate motor vehicles, a valid driver's license and the ability to be LENS cleared to operate state vehicles

NYS CSEA-P

Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the

NYS CSEA-P

Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship. In addition, candidates must demonstrate:

The ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions

The physical capability to perform the duties of the position
