Job Description
Under the supervision of an Operations Supervisor or higher-classified employee, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of street systems. Supports the team effort to accomplish the mission of the department. Assists with repair and maintenance activities designed to provide quality streets and related structures. Responds to complaints and service requests regarding potholes, flooding, right-of-way problems, or related issues. Mows and maintains public right-of-way. Contact residents and business owners in areas where services or access may be discontinued and explain when access or service is restored. Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking them after use. Participates in snow and ice control regularly during the winter program. Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, gravel, and sand. Mandatory overtime may require driving continuously for periods of up to 12 hours. Assists with the annual leaf pickup program. Assists in maintaining building/work areas, including cleaning floors and restrooms. Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to the supervisor. Meet all job safety requirements and standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position. Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Motorized vehicles and equipment, including dump trucks, pickup trucks, utility trucks, power lifts, tampers, plate compactors, saws, pumps, melting/distributing propane kettles, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, and phone. Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent program with at least one (1) year of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Knowledge:
Equipment, facilities, materials, and methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction, and repair activities.

The operation of the tools and equipment listed below.
Abilities:
Perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods; work safely; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public; understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Must have a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement OR obtain the CDL through the City of Cuyahoga Falls on-the-job entry-level driver training program within the six-month probationary period established in the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement. Must have the ability to maintain continuing eligibility under the City's driver eligibility standards, and be able to safely drive/operate all trucks and equipment assigned.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be a non-smoker and non-tobacco/nicotine user, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, snuff, etc., and refrain from using all tobacco/nicotine products for the duration of employment with the City.

The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

STARTING ENTRY RATE
$25.64/hour
