Job Overview The Village of Gambier is a welcoming and tight-knit community, notably home to Kenyon College. We are looking for another member to join our maintenance team and help keep the community safe, clean, and well-maintained. We're continuing to improve how we manage our infrastructure by using modern technology, including an advanced GIS-based asset management system. Responsibilities:

The position is a hands-on job with a wide variety of responsibilities. Specific daily work will vary depending on the season and the needs of the Village, and may include, but is not limited to: Mowing, weed eating, trimming, and maintaining Village grounds, including the Gambier Community Center and park areas. Maintaining trails, public spaces, and general grounds around Village properties and facilities. General maintenance and upkeep of Village buildings, signs, streets, and other public property. Assisting with cemetery maintenance, including opening and closing graves when needed. Cleaning and maintaining Village facilities, including restrooms, the Community Center, and concession areas. Moving furniture and equipment and assisting with setup or other facility needs. Patching potholes and performing general street maintenance. Cleaning storm drains and helping maintain drainage around Village streets. Responding to storms and other weather events by cleaning up debris, salting and plowing roads, and helping address damage or other maintenance needs. Assisting with curbside recycling. Painting, repairs, and other general maintenance projects as needed. Assisting with the maintenance and operation of the Village water system, including water meter replacements, fire hydrant upkeep, line repairs, and annual asset inspections for EPA compliance. Assisting with the maintenance and operation of the Village wastewater system, performing duties as required by the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. Operating Village vehicles, tools, and equipment as needed. Assisting other Village departments and employees with projects and repairs. Performing other maintenance and labor duties as assigned.

Work Hours and Benefits:

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position, Monday through Friday. Standard hours are 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. during Daylight Saving Time and 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during Standard Time. Alternative daytime schedules may be negotiated, provided the employee's shift falls between 6:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and meets the Village's operational needs. Full-time employees are eligible to participate in the Village's group health insurance plan, including medical, dental, and vision coverage. The Village pays 90% of the employee's premium and the majority of the additional premium for eligible dependents. Employees are also enrolled in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS). As a public employee covered by OPERS, you do not contribute to Social Security through this position and are eligible to earn retirement benefits through the state retirement system. The Village also offers additional incentive pay for maintaining applicable licenses and certifications, including those issued by the Ohio EPA and Ohio Department of Agriculture. The Village is also willing to consider reimbursement for job-related certifications and training that employees wish to pursue while employed.

Qualifications and Skills:

Must possess a valid driver's license. Dependable and able to work Monday through Friday on a full-time schedule. Willingness to learn new skills, equipment, and maintenance practices. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to follow directions and complete assigned work. Good communication and problem-solving skills. Willingness to perform a variety of outdoor and physical maintenance tasks; ability to handle the physical demands of the job, including standing, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing, and lifting at least 50 pounds. Water or wastewater licenses or other certifications are a plus, but not required. Experience with technology, GIS, or asset management systems are a plus, but not required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous experience in maintenance, landscaping, construction, equipment operation, or a related field preferred.

Pay:
