SUMMARY Fabricates and repairs a variety of tools, jigs, fixtures and gauges by applying knowledge of tool design, tool making, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, machining and assembly procedures. Instrumental in designing and fabricating prototype tooling for various productions areas. This classification is not considered a production department and will not be treated as such. Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment, such as fixtures, apparatus, engines, motors, vehicles, lift trucks, pneumatic tools, hoists, cranes, conveyor systems and production machines and equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications, using hand tools, pore tools and precision measuring and testing instruments. The level of employee competency is dependent on whether the employee meets Customer quality expectations and overall company rate of efficiency when running in production.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Studies specifications, such as blueprints, sketches or tool description and plans the sequence of operations. Measures, marks and scribes metal stock to lay out work pieces for machining. Sets up and operates machine tools, such as a lathe, milling machine, shaper, grinder and other tool room machinery to machine parts to specifications. Positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable using devices, such as vises, V-blocks and angle plates. Fits and assembles parts into assemblies or mechanisms using hand tools. Verifies dimensions and alignment using measuring devices, micrometers, calipers, height gauges and gauge blocks. Examines standard tools and modifies tools as required. Develops specifications from general descriptions and draws or sketches the tool to be fabricated using drafting tools or computer and software programs. May heat/treat tools or parts. May apply surface treatment to tools or parts. Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble. Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements using rulers, calipers, micrometers and other measuring instruments. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, levels and straightedges. Repairs or replaces or reworks defective parts using hand tools and power tools. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices using hand tools. Starts devices to test their performance. Lubricates and cleans parts. Performs preventive maintenance according to time schedule. May repair electrical equipment

$29.88 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
