This position is flexibly staffed and may be filled at either level. Maintenance Worker I is the entry level class in the Maintenance Worker series and Maintenance Worker II is the journey level class. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Performs turf, irrigation and tree maintenance Performs routine maintenance of restrooms Applies a variety of pesticides and herbicides that control or eradicate pests and weeds; Maintains parks to enhance beauty in a horticultural plan Operates spray units for spraying lawns and trees A complete job description can be viewed on our website at www.cityofvacaville.com .
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills in order to work in an effective manner across all City departments and with all levels of employees. The desirable knowledge, skills and abilities include, but are not limited to: Understanding of methods, tools, materials and equipment used in landscape maintenance. Ability to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled construction tasks. Familiarity with operation of a variety of power tools and landscape equipment. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of the workday. Knowledge of municipal irrigation systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities is:
MAINTENANCE WORKER I
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience:
One (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance work. Experience working in public works is desirable.
MAINTENANCE WORKER II
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience:
Two years of experience in public works general construction, maintenance and repair work, including the operation of some power-driven equipment.
License:
Possession of a Qualified Applicators Certificate from State of California Department of Pesticide Regulation is required.

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
