The California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS) is seeking to hire a student assistant to independently and collaboratively perform various assignments including reviewing analyzing, and processing retirement related transactions within our CalSTRS internal databases. Request and review various member account related documents. Maintain and update statistical reports on Excel and SharePoint; these tasks require the ability to retain and understand policies, laws, and regulations to ensure compliance with the Teachers' Retirement Law and CalSTRS policies and procedures under the general supervision of a CalSTRS Supervisor or Manager. Under the general supervision of a CalSTRS Supervisor or Manager, the Student Assistant will receive training from department staff and gain practical experience by observing and assisting with the work performed; assist in and support the Employer Services Division; analyze and evaluate data. Primary role will be to provide support to the Employer Reporting Validation and Account Maintenance teams, however, will also perform support functions for the division as a whole when necessary. May be utilized to review and process retirement related forms and other related administration activities in the division. The student assistant must exercise a high degree of discretion, confidentiality, and initiative to resolve issues. Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause. Compensation $19.00 to $23.00 per hour. Minimum Qualifications Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and SharePoint. Must maintain a courteous, respectful, and professional demeanor when working with staff. Must have a high level of customer service. Experience communicating effectively, verbally and written. Must be reliable and dependable, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment. Must have analytical and organizational skills with strong attention to detail. Ability to adapt to changes in workload, prioritize workload, and shift focus when needed. Good critical thinking skills. Experience with data entry. Preferred Qualifications Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Duties and Responsibilities Review and process less complex analytical workloads. Collaborate with various teams when data discrepancies are identified to ensure data integrity. Review and analyze member account information, member records, Teachers' Retirement Law, and resource materials as appropriate to complete various types of inquiries. Review and process various types of system related transactions to ensure compliance and accuracy of member data. Be highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint to track work performed, gather data on the information being tracked, and reporting out to management when necessary. Perform initial review and analysis of the forms to ensure eligibility, accuracy and completeness. Review to understand and apply the eligibility requirements for membership and creditable compensation based on the Teacher's Retirement Law and CalSTRS policies and procedures. Perform quality assurance for various workloads to ensure accuracy and track results for internal auditing purposes. Complete data entry into various CalSTRS systems. Engage in verbal and written communication with various business partners, internal and external. Collaborate with division analysts to resolve escalated issues. Analyze and provide recommendations on processes improvements to supervisor or manager. Train and assist new student assistants. Prepare and mail written correspondence to members. Knowledge share as necessary. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation. Working Conditions Work is performed in a hybrid schedule. The office is located at the CalSTRS HQ office in West Sacramento, two (2) days a week, working in-office Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week and working remotely on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. Students/Employees will be required to work according to the current UEI remote workplace policy and sign a UEI Work from Home Agreement. The decision to permit an employee to work from home is at the discretion of the supervisor or employer and may, at any time and with or without cause, unilaterally terminate the option to work from home.
