Job Description

Overview The City of Laurens is seeking a Maintenance & Grounds Staff member to join the City's General Building Maintenance and Grounds Keeping team. This position is responsible for helping maintain City-owned buildings, facilities, parks, and public spaces to ensure they remain well-maintained.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform general maintenance and minor repairs on City-owned buildings, facilities, and equipment. Maintain City parks, grounds, landscaped areas, and public spaces through mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, and debris removal. Operate and maintain landscaping and maintenance equipment, including mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, and hand tools. Assist with building maintenance tasks such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC repairs as assigned. Conduct routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify maintenance needs and safety hazards. Set up and tear down equipment, tables, chairs, and other materials for City events and community activities. Perform seasonal duties such as leaf removal, storm cleanup, and other weather-related maintenance activities. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency situations as needed. Follow all City policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulations while performing assigned duties. Work collaboratively with other City departments and employees to support daily operations and special projects. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Experience in maintenance, groundskeeping, landscaping, construction, or a related field preferred.
Skills:
Ability to operate maintenance equipment, lawn equipment, small machinery, and power tools safely. Physical stamina and strength to perform heavy lifting, digging, and extended outdoor work in all weather conditions. Basic knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Certifications:
Valid driver's license may be required for certain duties (e.g., operating city vehicles or trucks).
Working Conditions:
Outdoor work in various weather conditions. Lifting up to 50 pounds.
Job Type:
Full-time Pay:
$16.00 - $20.00 per hour
