Job Description

We are seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined Maintenance Apprentice who wants to build a long-term career in industrial equipment maintenance. This entry-level role works alongside experienced maintenance personnel to learn inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance in an active fabrication environment. About Us Custom Steel Fabricators, Inc. is a stainless steel plate fabricator located near downtown Columbia, TN, proudly operating since 1973. We supply exhaust stacks, tanks, pressure vessels and other items fabricated from stainless steel plate to a wide range of industries across the country and overseas. Primary Duties Assist with general maintenance and repair work throughout the shop and facility. Learn to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair basic mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and welding-equipment issues. Assist with scheduled preventive maintenance activities. Help maintain press brakes, plate bending rolls, shears, CNC plasma-cutting equipment, overhead cranes, lift trucks, welding machines, compressed-air systems, and related fabrication equipment. Perform basic maintenance tasks such as lubrication, filter changes, belt and hose replacement, cleaning, hardware tightening, consumable replacement, and minor repairs. Organize maintenance tools, parts, supplies, and work areas. Assist with documentation of inspections, maintenance work, repairs, and parts used. Follow lockout/tagout procedures, PPE requirements, housekeeping standards, and all company safety policies. Promptly report equipment problems, unsafe conditions, and repair needs to the maintenance supervisor or shop management. Full-time day shift position Overtime and occasional night shift may be required due to shop demand Qualifications Mechanical aptitude and a genuine interest in industrial equipment repair and maintenance. Dependable attendance, initiative, positive attitude, and strong work ethic. Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, measuring tools, and safe work practices. Willingness to learn mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and industrial-maintenance skills. Ability to follow instructions, work independently after training, and ask questions when needed. Ability to safely lift, carry, and move materials and tools as needed. Comfortable working around noise, welding fumes, dust, heat, and occasional outdoor conditions. High school diploma or GED preferred Prior experience in fabrication, manufacturing, construction, automotive repair, farm equipment, welding, maintenance, or trade school is preferred but not required. OSHA training, forklift experience, welding experience, and basic electrical or mechanical coursework are all pluses.
