Job Description

The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Freedom Hall Maintenance Worker. Performs intermediate semiskilled general maintenance work at Freedom Hall Civic Center and assists with landscaping for the Park and Recreation Department; does related work as required with some collaboration with other departments (Parks and Rec, Facilities, IT, .....). This is a semiskilled position which maintains and repairs Freedom Hall facilities and equipment and assisting with parks and recreation grounds maintenance. This position is also responsible for assisting with the preparation and set-up of facilities for use.
Essential Functions of Position:
assists with the set-up for events and shows at Freedom Hall; setup of outside events as needed and including 4th of July Celebration; makes minor repairs to building, building equipment and furniture; assist with stage set-up for events; assist with stage take down after events; assist with basketball floor set-up; sets-up and runs scoreboard, computer and sound equipment; use of a fork lift for event set-ups; general custodial duties; landscapes track facility and grounds and supervises their maintenance; cleans and waxes floors; changing lights and fixtures; a large number of Nights and weekend work as the schedule is flexed to accommodate events; performs related tasks as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment, and ability to use them economically and efficiently; mechanical aptitude.
Acceptable Experience and Training:
Completion of high school or GED and some building cleaning experience at the level of Custodian; desired experience working with a Civic Center in stage set-up; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
