Job Summary:

The Port of Galveston is seeking a dependable and skilled individual to serve as a Cruise Terminal Maintenance and Operations Assistant. This position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, functionality, and safety of cruise terminal facilities while assisting with day-to-day terminal operations. The position performs a variety of routine and minor maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC-related tasks, surface repairs, painting, and general facility upkeep. The employee will also inspect facilities and equipment, respond to work orders, maintain tools and supplies, and assist terminal operations as needed.

Description of Duties:

Facility Maintenance and Repairs

• Perform routine maintenance to ensure terminal structures, fixtures, equipment, and facility systems remain in good working condition.
• Conduct inspections of terminal infrastructure, equipment, fixtures, and systems to identify maintenance needs, deficiencies, or safety hazards.
• Perform minor plumbing repairs, including fixing leaky faucets, unclogging drains, repairing running toilets, and replacing sink fixtures.
• Perform minor electrical maintenance, including replacing light switches, electrical outlets, light fixtures, and burnt-out light bulbs, within the scope of assigned duties and applicable safety requirements.
• Perform minor HVAC-related maintenance, including replacing filters, troubleshooting basic issues, and identifying leaks or other maintenance concerns.
• Perform basic carpentry and general repairs, including assembling furniture, repairing or installing shelving, repairing doors, mending fences, and making other minor facility repairs.
• Perform surface repairs, including patching holes, repairing drywall, and painting or touching up interior and exterior surfaces.
• Perform outdoor facility improvements and maintenance, including cleaning gutters, repairing fences, and addressing minor cracks or deficiencies in sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas.
• Paint, stain, seal, or varnish surfaces as needed to maintain the appearance and condition of Port facilities.
• Assemble and install furniture, appliances, electronics, shelving, whiteboards, artwork, blinds, and other facility items.
• Assist with maintaining restrooms, waiting areas, boarding bridges, offices, public areas, and other cruise terminal spaces in a clean, safe, and presentable condition. Terminal Operations Support
• Support terminal operations staff with passenger flow, logistics, and facility needs during cruise operations and peak periods.
• Assist with preparing terminal facilities for vessel arrivals, departures, special events, and other operational activities.
• Respond to maintenance issues that may affect passenger or employee safety, terminal operations, or the overall customer experience.
• Communicate maintenance concerns and facility issues to supervisors or appropriate personnel. Work Orders, Tools, and Inventory
• Update work order tickets with accurate notes regarding work performed, materials used, and outstanding maintenance needs.
• Complete assigned work orders in a timely and professional manner.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies in an organized and secure manner.
• Maintain accurate inventory of tools, equipment, parts, and supplies and notify the supervisor when materials need to be replenished.
• Use tools, equipment, and materials safely and appropriately.
• Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly condition. Safety and Compliance
• Follow all Port of Galveston safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
• Identify and report unsafe conditions, hazards, damaged equipment, or facility deficiencies.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices.
• Perform assigned maintenance duties within established safety requirements and the employee's level of training and authorization.
• Maintain a secure and safe environment for passengers, employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Additional related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
• Previous experience in facility maintenance, building maintenance, janitorial services, construction, or a related field preferred.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and general facility maintenance.
• Ability to safely use common hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
• Ability to inspect facilities and identify routine maintenance needs and safety concerns.
• Ability to complete work orders and maintain accurate records.
• Ability to organize and maintain tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Ability to work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and terminal operations personnel.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness, safety, and quality workmanship.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to troubleshoot basic maintenance issues and determine when a problem requires additional expertise or outside assistance.
• Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, climbing, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
• Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions.
• Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, early mornings, evenings, and irregular hours as required by cruise terminal operations.
• Knowledge of cruise terminal operations and procedures is a plus.
