Department Public Works-Wastewater Location Default Salary $17.48/ Hour Open Date 08/04/2026 Description Job Description The objective of the Wastewater Collections Crewman is to perform a variety of maintenance work testing and operating a variety of equipment. This position is also responsible for the repair and maintenance of the City's wastewater collection system; duties may be changed with or without notice. Job Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional; position-specific duties. Performs scheduled maintenance and repairs. Diagnosis and repair water and wastewater lines. Diagnosis and repair of sewer lines (CCTV; Vacuum Truck; smoke; dye; visual) of the wastewater collection system. Maintains accurate records and documentation of work orders and repairs. Adheres to all safety rules regarding confined spaces and trenching as related to field. Performing traffic control; flagging; directing of traffic in a safe; responsible manner; ensuring the safety of self; co-workers; and the public. Attends all training regarding safe operations in the field to ensure personal safety and the safety of co-workers. Cross trains in other areas of the City; as possible.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience with wastewater and water line installation and repair; preferred. Experience with operating heavy equipment including a backhoe; preferred. Experience with basic computer skills; preferred. Must be able to work an on-call schedule when assigned or in severe weather conditions when needed. Must be able to safely enter and exit manholes and perform maintenance and repairs in a 4' diameter manhole.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

Texas driver's license and acceptable driving record. Valid Texas Class "B" CDL; preferred; OR ability to obtain within the first six (6) months of hire. TCEQ Class "D" Wastewater License; preferred; or ability to obtain within the first year of employment.

Required Knowledge of:

Safety policies; procedures; and practices. Applicable local; State; and Federal laws; codes; regulations; and ordinances.

Required Skill in:

Operating a variety of hand tools; power tools; and other equipment. Following written and verbal instructions. Maintaining a professional manner when interacting with City employees and the public. Reading and interpreting maintenance and equipment manuals. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Reasoning Abilities:

Ability to respond to complaints and grievances posed by the public. Ability to define problems and deal with a variety of situations. Ability to think quickly; maintain self-control and adapt to stressful situations. Ability to use good judgement and effectively problem-solve.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the staff; supervisor; and the public. Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form. Ability to read City policies and procedures; written instructions; general correspondence; MSDS sheets; safety manuals; traffic signs and warning labels.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate basic mathematical calculations (addition; subtraction; multiplication; division).
