Primary Purpose:
Assists and provides support to all trades in the Operations Department (Carpenters, Electricians, HVAC Technicians, Plumbers, Roofers, Painters, Floor Installer, Fence Installer, Welder, etc.). Assignment of helpers to specific trades is based on the immediate needs of the district and maintenance requests submitted to the operations department.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma, GED from a school recognized by the Texas Education Agency/Texas Private School Accreditation Commission or ninth grade education and three years of maintenance related experience. Possess and maintain a Valid Texas Drivers License and Clear Driving record throughout employment. Must have knowledge and be able to operate hand tools and equipment. Must be able to work on ladders, scaffolds, man-lift devices and on top of building roofs.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Self-motivated with proactive approach to maintenance activities. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with administrators, teachers, and other staff Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both forms written and orally. Treats all people with dignity and respect. Ability to solve practical problems. Working knowledge of facility maintenance activities Follow good preventive maintenance practices and provide detailed and accurate work.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Assist maintenance technicians/trades on daily activities as assigned by supervisor. Participates in troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving facility equipment problems. Assists with repairs in the areas of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and safety systems. Provides support to supervisor on the completion of work orders in a timely manner. Respond to maintenance requests and light repairs in a timely and professional manner. Detect and report the need for major maintenance repairs Performs basic tasks such as filling crevices, patching walls and painting at district facilities. Assist with pick up and hauling trash and debris to land-fill. Clean out roof drains, downspouts, A/C diffusers and exposed ductwork. Assist in district wide projects involving Division of Operations assistance a. Delivery of furniture to campuses. b. Assist campuses and administration offices with special requests and activities. c. Assist with delivery of supplies and equipment to campuses for the Shipping & Receiving Department. Safeguards merchandise inventory against damage and theft. Ensure work areas at campuses and departments are accessible and safe for students, teachers, fellow employees and visitors. Verify areas are clean after any maintenace or repair activity is performed. Sweep, dust and mop as deemed necessary. Promotes safety and wears Personal Protective Equipment to perform job duties. Demonstrates respectfulness by communicating effectively with fellow coworkers and staff to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Maintain professional relationship with fellow coworkers and administrators. Maintain confidentiality of information. Must participate in planned in-service training sessions and relevant workshops. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor. Must wear LISD issued uniform when reporting to duty and adhere to the dress code administrative regulation.

Electrical measuring and testing equipment, HVAC testing equipment and pressure gauges, Freon recovery equipment, pressure washers, paint sprayers, small hand tools, power tools, ladders, calculator, hand trucks, pallet jacks, scissor lifts, district vehicles & trailers.
