Job Overview We are seeking a dependable, motivated, and hands-on Maintenance Assistant / Maintenance Technician to support the day-to-day maintenance operations of our hotel properties. This position works closely with the Head of Maintenance and hotel management to help ensure guest rooms, public areas, equipment, and building systems remain safe, functional, and well maintained. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, takes pride in their work, can troubleshoot basic maintenance issues, and is willing to learn and grow their technical skills. Hotel maintenance experience is preferred but not required for a candidate with a strong work ethic and general maintenance knowledge. Responsibilities Assist the Head of Maintenance with daily maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance throughout the properties. Respond to maintenance requests involving guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and hotel equipment in a timely and professional manner. Perform basic repairs involving plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliances, fixtures, furniture, doors, locks, and other building components within the scope of training and experience. Assist with routine inspections of guest rooms, mechanical areas, exterior areas, and hotel facilities to identify maintenance or safety concerns. Complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks according to hotel and Best Western standards. Assist with maintaining Best Western standardized maintenance logs , including required monthly, quarterly, and annual documentation. Help troubleshoot HVAC systems, plumbing fixtures, electrical components, appliances, and other hotel equipment. Assist with pool and spa equipment inspections, testing, and routine maintenance as assigned and where properly trained. Complete work orders and accurately document repairs and maintenance performed. Assist with maintaining an organized maintenance shop, tools, equipment, replacement parts, and inventory. Support larger repair projects, equipment installations, facility improvements, and property upgrades under the direction of the Head of Maintenance or hotel management. Coordinate professionally with Front Desk, Housekeeping, and other departments when maintenance work impacts guest rooms or hotel operations. Follow all company safety procedures and properly use tools, ladders, testing equipment, personal protective equipment, and chemicals. Identify maintenance concerns that require additional expertise and promptly communicate them to the Head of Maintenance or management. Assist with emergency maintenance situations when necessary. Help maintain the overall appearance, functionality, cleanliness, and safety of the hotel's interior and exterior areas. Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned. Experience & Qualifications Previous experience in hotel maintenance, facilities maintenance, construction, handyman work, or a related field is preferred. General knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliances, carpentry, and mechanical systems is preferred. Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to safely operate common hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment. Ability to read basic equipment instructions, diagrams, and maintenance documentation. Willingness to learn hotel-specific equipment, preventive maintenance procedures, and Best Western maintenance standards. Ability to follow instructions and work independently once assigned a task. Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize potential maintenance and safety concerns. Good communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with guests, coworkers, vendors, and management. Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests in a fast-paced hotel environment. Dependable attendance and the ability to respond appropriately to urgent maintenance needs. Ability to perform physical duties associated with maintenance work, including standing, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and lifting or moving equipment and supplies. Basic electrical testing or diagnostic experience, including familiarity with multimeters or similar testing equipment, is a plus.
