Job Description

High school diploma or GED required. Two years of experience in ground maintenance work is preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Strong oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal abilities, and good public relations skills are essential. Basic computer and cashiering skills are required, along with accurate recordkeeping skills. Knowledge of waste management operations and handling hazardous materials is a plus. Must be able to work in all weather conditions. This position requires standing for extended periods and lifting up to 60 pounds. Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Responsibilities include performing general maintenance of grounds and facilities; overseeing citizens and contractors during the disposal or recycling of collected materials; operating heavy equipment; completing cashiering functions; responding to customer inquiries; and monitoring community recycling centers. Additional duties may be assigned. Perform other work as required. All tasks must be performed safely, efficiently, and with a positive attitude. Safety is the top priority.
