Hospital Groundskeeper/Maintenance Assistant Position Summary The Hospital Groundskeeper / Maintenance Assistant is responsible for maintaining the hospital's outdoor grounds, landscaping, and appearance while assisting with select indoor facility duties. This position supports a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff through routine grounds maintenance, facility inspections, basic repairs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Grounds and Landscaping Mow lawns, trim grass, edge sidewalks and maintain landscaped areas. Plant, water, prune, and care for trees, shrubs, flowers, and other vegetation. Remove weeds, leaves, litter, and debris from hospital grounds. Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blower. Assist with snow removal, ice control, and seasonal grounds maintenance. Maintain parking lots, walkways, entrances, and outdoor common areas. Facility and Indoor Support Perform routine inspections of hospital grounds and selected interior areas. Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and supplies. Complete minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, changing filters, and basic repairs. Monitor facility conditions and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly. Safety Checks and Inspections Conduct daily visual inspections of grounds and facilities for hazards. Ensure outdoor areas remain safe and accessible for patients, visitors, and staff. Follow all hospital safety policies, infection prevention protocols, and OSHA regulations. Complete required inspection logs and maintenance records. Qualifications Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to safely operate maintenance and groundskeeping equipment. Ability to respond to emergencies and urgent maintenance needs as required. Working Conditions Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, dust, and landscaping materials.
