Job Description
WVNCC seeks applicants for Campus Service Worker. This is a part-time, on-campus position on the New Martinsville Campus. Performs a variety of manual labor activities which may include janitorial, maintenance, groundskeeping, and event setup. Responsible for cleaning and maintaining institutional buildings and facilities including offices, classrooms, laboratories, public areas, walkways, etc. Job responsibilities require the ability to perform work both independently and as a team. Additional requirements may include the ability to perform both indoor and outdoor work such as basic grounds cleanup, snow removal, and trash removal. Work is closely supervised, with limited opportunity for independent action or decision-making, and consists of tasks that are routine, or well-defined, with specific instructions to achieve standards. Decisions are infrequent and errors could result in minor inconveniences and costs within the affected area. Campus Service Worker Custodial:
- Clean classrooms, offices, hallways, and restrooms
- Sweep, mop, strip, vacuum, and wax floors
- Empty trash cans and dispose of trash
- Fill soap, toilet paper, and paper towel dispensers for restrooms and staff kitchen
- Dust and disinfect tables, chairs, door handles, and restroom fixtures
- Event preparation for rooms and cleanup after event
General Maintenance:
- Complete routine maintenance including repairs to o electrical (lights/ballasts) o emergency lighting batteries o replacing floor tiles o painting o making minor plumbing (including prep work) o and maintain equipment (lawn/snow removal)
Serving Needs of Constituents:
- Prepare and set up classrooms for a variety of events (college and external groups/agencies)
- Move equipment as needed
- Lock and unlock buildings, offices, and classrooms as needed
- Assist staff and students with immediate needs
- Provide assistance to students in need of mobility assistance (to/from automobiles and around building) as needed
- Secure buildings, offices, and classrooms
Groundskeeping:
- Prune bushes, mow grass, and maintain planting beds.
- Shovel snow, scrape ice/slush and mud, and spread salt as needed, ensuring hazard-free entrances in inclement weather.
Safety considerations:
- Inspect first aid and emergency equipment.
- Monitor and test fire alarm system (coordinate with local fire department as needed).
- Inspect and monitor safety showers and eyewash stations, ladders and mechanical equipment, and emergency lighting.
