Job Description

Overview Laughlin Chapel provides free afterschool and summer programs for K-5 children. The program operates approximately 40 weeks out of the year. The afterschool program is held Monday - Thursday and the summer program operates Monday - Friday. Hiring now for the afterschool program, which begins September 7. Join our dynamic facilities team as a Custodian/Maintenance Worker and play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. This energetic position offers the opportunity to perform a variety of custodial and maintenance tasks that ensure our facilities operate smoothly and meet high standards of sanitation and safety. You will be an essential part of creating a positive atmosphere for staff, visitors, and clients alike by delivering exceptional cleaning and maintenance services with enthusiasm and professionalism. Duties Perform thorough cleaning of all areas including floors, restrooms, offices, and common spaces using commercial cleaning equipment such as floor buffers and vacuums. Handle chemical agents safely during cleaning processes, adhering strictly to chemical handling safety procedures. Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, painting, and replacing fixtures to ensure facility upkeep. Operate cleaning machinery including floor buffers, scrubbers, and other custodial equipment to maintain optimal cleanliness. Assist with heavy lifting and manual handling tasks while following safe lifting practices to prevent injuries. Maintain sanitation standards by properly disposing of waste, refilling supplies, and ensuring all areas meet health regulations. Support Executive Director by reporting repairs needed or hazards identified during daily rounds or inspections. As need is determined, make initial service calls to appropriate vendors. Provide excellent customer service by responding promptly to cleaning requests or maintenance issues from staff or visitors. Qualifications Proven custodial experience with knowledge of commercial cleaning techniques and janitorial best practices. Familiarity with cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, scrubbers, and vacuums. Experience handling chemical agents safely in accordance with safety protocol adherence. Ability to perform heavy lifting and manual handling tasks while maintaining safe lifting practices. Strong attention to detail in sanitation, floor care, and overall cleanliness standards. Basic facilities maintenance skills including minor repairs, painting, and troubleshooting issues. Excellent communication skills with a customer service-oriented approach. Prior porter or industrial cleaning experience is preferred but not required; training will be provided for the right candidate.
