Position Summary Reporting to the General Manager, the Service Manager is responsible for the overall operation, performance, profitability, customer experience, and employee development of the Fairbanks Service Department. This hands-on leadership role builds an organized, productive shop through clear priorities, efficient workflow, employee development, expense control, financial oversight, and strong customer communication. Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, schedule, and develop Service Advisors, technicians, porters, and other Service personnel.
- Manage daily shop workflow, repair-order scheduling, work-in-process, technician capacity, and promised completion dates.
- Monitor technician productivity, efficiency, proficiency, available hours, and unapplied labor.
- Grow customer-pay, warranty, and appropriate internal Service sales while maintaining healthy gross profit.
- Review Service sales, gross profit, payroll, policy expenses, unapplied labor, and other controllable expenses.
- Maintain realistic customer expectations and ensure timely, professional communication throughout the repair process.
- Handle escalated customer concerns and work toward fair, timely resolutions.
- Ensure warranty repairs and claims comply with OEM requirements and contain appropriate documentation.
- Manage aging repair orders, parts delays, authorization delays, and other workflow bottlenecks.
- Coordinate with Parts and Sales on parts availability, new-unit preparation, accessory installation, inspections, and reconditioning.
- Recruit, onboard, train, evaluate, and develop Service Department employees.
- Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and safe Service Department.
- Review department performance, staffing needs, risks, opportunities, and financial results with the General Manager. Qualifications
- Powersports, motorcycle, automotive, marine, equipment, or similar Service Department experience preferred.
- Previous Service management or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, customer-service, and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of repair-order workflow, technician scheduling, warranty processes, and Service Department operations.
- Ability to understand labor sales, gross profit, productivity, efficiency, expense control, and basic departmental financial reports.
- Comfort using dealership management systems, OEM portals, email, spreadsheets, and standard business software; Lightspeed DMS experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate dealership vehicles and powersports equipment as appropriate. Core Competencies
