To provide support operations services to the Jefferson County School System. To assist supervisors and school system administrators with building maintenance. To assist with the management of school system resources.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Five (5) years of experience in building maintenance. Three (3) years of experience in supervision of personnel. Possess and maintain valid driver's license. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Ability, agility and stamina to engage in prolonged sitting or standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning and reaching. Excellent organization, verbal and written communication and public relations skills. Ability to climb and work form scaffolding, ladders, confined spaces and heights. Ability to work in locations involving heights or confined spaces; to work indoors and outdoors year-round in noisy, crowded environments, and inclement weather. Physical strength to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to exert up to 75 pounds of force. Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays when necessary. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance. Such alternative qualifications to those listed as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities. Evaluates school buildings on a regular basis for repairs and maintenance. Recommends a schedule for maintenance projects. Estimates cost of maintenance projects. Assigns maintenance projects to appropriate personnel. Develops a system for addressing emergency maintenance projects. Prepares reports in accordance with school system financial procedures. Orders materials as needed and makes recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase. Recommends and purchases materials in accordance with school system financial procedures. Consults with principals regarding building maintenance. Maintains records. Oversees the daily operations of the Support Operations Department and assigned personnel. Assists support operations staff with repairs to equipment, utilities, and building structures as needed. Evaluates the cost effectiveness of further repair or replacement of equipment and utilities. Reviews completed work orders and forwards them for entry into Team Works data base. Demonstrates professional ethics and effective leadership. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner. Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
