Exempt Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 6:00 am to 3:00 pm. On-call, weekends, and overtime as needed.
Position Overview:
The Head of Maintenance leads all maintenance operations at McVantage Packaging and reports directly to the President. This is a senior-level leadership role focused on building a strong maintenance team, improving equipment reliability, and supporting plant growth. This is a player-coach role. The Head of Maintenance will perform hands-on maintenance when needed but will spend most of their time teaching, developing team members, and improving maintenance systems. The ideal candidate is a multi-craft expert with strong experience in automated production lines and a passion for training others.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Development:
Lead, coach, and develop the maintenance team Train team members in electrical, mechanical, and automation skills Build a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement Hands-On Support (Player-Coach): Assist with complex repairs and troubleshooting Lead by example on the production floor Support the team during breakdowns or high-demand periods
Automation and Systems Improvement:
Oversee and improve automated production lines Work with PLCs, sensors, motors, and control systems Identify ways to increase uptime, speed, and efficiency
Maintenance Strategy and Planning:
Build and manage a preventive maintenance program Develop long-term maintenance strategies Use data to improve performance and reduce downtime
Equipment Reliability:
Ensure all plant equipment runs safely and efficiently Reduce repeat failures using root cause analysis Support installation of new equipment and upgrades
Safety Leadership:
Enforce safety rules and OSHA standards Train team members on safe maintenance practices Ensure all equipment is properly guarded and maintained

Required Qualifications:
Education:
None required (technical or trade training strongly preferred)
Experience:
10+ years of maintenance experience in manufacturing Strong experience with automated production lines (required) Proven experience leading and developing maintenance teams
Skills:
Expert-level troubleshooting ability Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems Experience with PLCs and automation systems Ability to teach and mentor others effectively Ability to read schematics and technical manuals

Experience:
Experience in wood packaging, pallets, or similar industry Experience in a leadership role within a fast-paced production environment

Work Environment:
Work is performed in a manufacturing plant. The environment is loud and fast-paced. Equipment includes saws, nail guns, conveyors, and automated systems. Personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection is required and provided

Pay:
$33.88 - $40.80 per hour
