Position Summary The Chief Maintenance Engineer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, safety, appearance, and efficient operation of the hotel's facilities, equipment, and building systems. This hands-on leadership position ensures guest rooms, public areas, exterior spaces, and back-of-house areas are maintained to Home2 Suites by Hilton brand standards. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, guest-focused, and experienced in hotel or commercial property maintenance. This individual must be comfortable performing repairs, managing preventive maintenance, responding to emergencies, and leading maintenance team members and outside vendors. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Oversee the daily operation of the hotel's maintenance department. Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair hotel equipment and building systems. Perform basic repairs involving HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, appliances, lighting, drywall, painting, doors, locks, and furniture. Maintain guest rooms, public areas, exterior spaces, and back-of-house areas in excellent condition. Respond promptly and professionally to guest maintenance concerns. Develop and maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance program. Complete scheduled guest-room preventive maintenance and document all work performed. Prioritize, assign, complete, and follow up on maintenance work orders. Conduct routine property inspections and identify repair, safety, and appearance concerns. Ensure the hotel remains compliant with Hilton brand standards, applicable building codes, fire-safety requirements, and local regulations. Monitor the condition and operation of the hotel's HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire-life-safety, and other major systems. Coordinate specialized repairs, inspections, and service calls with approved contractors and vendors. Maintain accurate records for inspections, repairs, warranties, equipment, and preventive maintenance. Monitor maintenance supplies, tools, replacement parts, and department inventory. Assist management with maintenance budgets, purchasing, capital projects, and recommendations for equipment replacement. Follow proper safety practices, including lockout/tagout procedures and the appropriate handling and storage of chemicals. Train and supervise maintenance employees when applicable. Communicate room and equipment status with the front desk, housekeeping, and hotel leadership. Participate in emergency-response procedures and remain available for urgent maintenance issues as required. Assist other hotel departments when needed to support guest satisfaction and hotel operations. Opening-Hotel Responsibilities Assist with pre-opening inspections of guest rooms, public areas, equipment, and building systems. Identify and document construction deficiencies and warranty-related issues. Coordinate with hotel leadership, contractors, and vendors to ensure outstanding items are corrected. Help establish preventive maintenance schedules, equipment records, vendor contacts, and department procedures. Organize the maintenance shop, tools, replacement parts, and supplies before opening. Assist with testing hotel systems and ensuring the property is prepared for guests and Hilton inspections. Qualifications Previous hotel, apartment, commercial-building, or facilities-maintenance experience required. Previous maintenance leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred. Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, appliances, painting, drywall, and general repairs. Ability to troubleshoot problems and determine when a licensed contractor is required. Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hotel environment. Professional and guest-focused attitude. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Basic computer skills and the ability to use work-order and preventive-maintenance systems. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required. Relevant HVAC, pool, electrical, or facilities-maintenance certifications are preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in confined spaces for extended periods. Ability to safely lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. Ability to use ladders, hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions. Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Schedule This position requires schedule flexibility based on hotel needs. Availability may include mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency or on-call situations.
