The Maintenance Lead performs and coordinates troubleshooting, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance across multiple trades. The role also assigns daily work, coordinates coverage, trains technicians and machine operators, maintains CMMS records, manages parts and work orders, and escalates major failures or specialized work to engineering leadership, licensed trades, or qualified vendors. Maintenance Coverage
  • Commercial and industrial refrigeration and cold storage systems supporting floral products.
  • PLC driven equipment, conveyors, automated storage and material handling systems, and collaborative robots.
  • Corrective maintenance response and root cause resolution across production and facility systems.
  • Preventive and predictive maintenance programs administered through the company CMMS.
  • Electrical systems including panels, motors, controls, sensors, and variable frequency drives.
  • Facility plumbing, water, drainage, and related building systems.
  • Compressed air systems and distribution supporting production equipment.
  • Other facility infrastructure necessary to maintain safe and reliable site operations. Essential Responsibilities
  • Manage the day to day maintenance function for all seven production lines, automated material handling systems, refrigeration systems, utilities, and facility infrastructure.
  • Directly supervise three maintenance technicians, including planning, assigning, directing, and evaluating their work and maintaining accountability for department performance.
  • Establish work priorities and allocate labor and resources based on safety, production schedules, customer orders, equipment criticality, and business impact.
  • Participate in technician interviews, provide job-related feedback concerning employee performance and development, and promptly document and communicate attendance, conduct, or performance concerns to management and Human Resources.
  • Coordinate daily technician schedules, weekend and emergency coverage, and shift adjustments; submit overtime or staffing needs for approval in accordance with company procedures.
  • Develop technician capabilities through coaching, cross training, skills assessment, and documented development plans covering refrigeration, electrical systems, plumbing, compressed air, controls, and automation.
  • Own the site corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance programs and ensure CMMS work orders, schedules, equipment history, parts usage, and completion records are accurate and current.
  • Monitor maintenance performance indicators, recurring failures, downtime, backlog, preventive maintenance completion, and repair quality; initiate corrective actions and continuous improvement plans.
  • Personally perform and coordinate troubleshooting and repair activities involving refrigeration, electrical and electromechanical systems, controls, PLC driven equipment, conveyors, cobots, plumbing, compressed air, and production machinery.
  • Determine when work can be completed by the internal team and when automation engineers, licensed trades, specialty contractors, or equipment vendors must be engaged.
  • Manage site spare parts, critical inventory, vendor relationships, service contracts, purchase orders, work orders, and maintenance expenditures within assigned authority.
  • Coordinate with the company CMMS lead and Miami maintenance and engineering leadership to standardize records, reporting, preventive maintenance practices, and reliability initiatives.
  • Ensure production machines are operated safely and correctly by overseeing operator training and internal equipment qualification or certification records.
  • Lead equipment failure reviews and root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions to reduce repeat failures and unplanned downtime.
  • Support capital projects, equipment installations, commissioning, and automation upgrades by coordinating site access, technicians, vendors, testing, and operational readiness.
  • Enforce safety procedures and regulatory requirements, including lockout tagout, machine guarding, electrical safety, and refrigerant handling requirements applicable to the facility.
  • Provide regular reports to site and Miami leadership regarding equipment condition, downtime, risks, staffing, vendor support, budget needs, and improvement priorities.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the management of the maintenance function and site operations. Required Qualifications
  • Three or more years of industrial or facility maintenance experience, including hands-on experience with production equipment and multiple facility trades.
  • Prior experience leading, training, or directly supervising maintenance technicians, including assigning work and supporting employee development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical and electromechanical systems, industrial controls, PLCs, VFDs, sensors, commercial or industrial refrigeration, plumbing, and compressed air systems.
  • Working knowledge of automated material handling, conveyors, robotic or cobot equipment, or the ability to quickly learn the site's existing systems.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, panel drawings, equipment manuals, and basic plumbing and refrigeration diagrams.
  • Experience managing corrective and preventive maintenance through a CMMS, including work orders, equipment history, parts usage, and maintenance metrics.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, prioritize competing operational demands, manage vendors, and make time sensitive decisions affecting safety and production.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English. Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills are preferred to support effective communication with technicians and production employees. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a warehouse, distribution, cold chain, perishables, floral, produce, food production, or similar high volume environment.
  • Experience with automated storage and retrieval systems or other large scale automation.
  • EPA Section 608 certification or another relevant refrigeration credential when applicable to the equipment serviced at the facility.
  • Electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, controls, reliability, or maintenance management certification.
  • Experience managing budgets, purchase orders, contractors, parts inventory, and service agreements.
