We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Equipment Maintenance Supervisor to lead a team of maintenance mechanics who support manufacturing, packaging, facility equipment, and utilities within a personal care and OTC products contract manufacturing environment. This role ensures that all equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently while maintaining compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), FDA regulations, safety requirements, and company quality standards. The Supervisor drives preventive and predictive maintenance programs, minimizes equipment downtime, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and develops team capabilities to meet production, quality, and customer service objectives. This role combines mechanical knowledge with strong leadership to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our manufacturing operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Team Leadership & Supervision:
Supervise, schedule, coach, and develop a team of equipment mechanics. Assign daily work priorities and ensure timely completion of preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities. Monitor employee performance and conduct training, performance reviews, and corrective actions as necessary. Promote a culture of safety, accountability, quality, and continuous improvement. Ensure adequate staffing and support across all shifts as needed. Provide after-hours maintenance resources by calling in appropriate maintenance staff or respond personally in critical or complicated situations.
Equipment Reliability & Maintenance:
Oversee maintenance of manufacturing and packaging equipment, including fillers, mixers, blenders, labelers, cartoners, conveyors, cappers, torquers, and auxiliary equipment. Ensure execution of preventive maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance, and corrective maintenance programs. Troubleshoot complex mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electromechanical equipment issues. Coordinate equipment repairs to minimize production downtime and maximize asset utilization. Review maintenance work orders and equipment history to identify recurring failures and implement corrective actions. Identify bottlenecks and offer suggestions on how to resolve them, including stepping in to perform any task in support of company goals.
GMP, Quality & Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure maintenance activities comply with
GMP, FDA
regulations, OSHA requirements and company quality systems. Support audits, inspections, and customer visits by maintaining equipment documentation and records. Review and approve maintenance documentation, work orders, calibration records, and equipment logs. Ensure equipment remains in a validated state where applicable. Participate in investigations related to deviations, nonconformances, and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Safety & Environmental Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, confined space requirements, and applicable regulations. Conduct safety meetings and promote proactive hazard identification. Investigate maintenance-related incidents and implement corrective actions. Maintain a safe and organized maintenance work environment.
Production Support:
Partner closely with Production, Quality, Validation, and Engineering teams to support manufacturing schedules. Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and production interruptions. Support equipment changeovers and startup activities. Provide technical expertise during new product launches and process improvements. Prioritize maintenance needs and allocate resources effectively. Direct tasks with an understanding of the importance of increasing accuracy and efficiency and decreasing waste and operational costs Continually assess maintenance effectiveness and work with production team to identify opportunities for improvement, production optimization and maintenance planning.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and maintenance effectiveness. Utilize root cause analysis methodologies to reduce repeat failures. Support lean manufacturing and operational excellence initiatives. Recommend capital improvements and equipment upgrades. Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) including downtime, PM completion, maintenance backlog, and equipment reliability. Qualifications To fulfill requirements of job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty at a high level. Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and experience may be considered. 5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred. Experience in personal care, OTC, pharmaceutical, food, or other regulated manufacturing environments strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, industrial equipment troubleshooting, and preventive and predictive maintenance programs in a GMP and FDA-regulated manufacturing environment. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical documentation. Strong leadership/team management skills with ability to motivate and manage a diverse team. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to respond quickly and direct activities in an environment with constantly changing priorities. Strong understanding of safety regulations and environmental compliance standards. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across departments and communicate effectively with team members. Analytical mindset with the ability to identify trends, analyze data, and make informed decisions. Fluency in English. Bilingual in technical Spanish is a strong differentiator. Must be able to work in person onsite. Physical Requirements Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery, noise, and varying temperatures. Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds. Availability to work flexible hours, weekends, and respond to emergency maintenance situations as needed. The salary range for this role is $80,000 - $115,000 annually. Compensation is commensurate with level of knowledge, education, skills, and experience applicable to the position.
