We are a group of award-winning dealerships, specializing in customized towing equipment installation and upfit. Job Summary The Shop Foreman is responsible for the successful, timely, and efficient operation of the shop and the tow truck wrecker/carrier installation and fabrication process, including maintaining quality and safety standards in conformity with Company policies and ensuring legal compliance with safety requirements through coordination with upper management. The Shop Foreman reports directly to and is fully accountable to the Operations Manager and General Manager. All for the technicians directly report to the Shop Foreman. Job Requirements High School Diploma; Associate's Degree with emphasis on automotive and mechanical shop management preferred. Experience in all technical aspects of the fabrication and assembly of car carriers and tow trucks, including knowledge and skill in welding, electrical, hydraulics, and automotive applications. Organizational management, time management and prioritizing skills. Delegation skill, clear communication of expectations and accountability to direct reports. Problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Constructive correction skills. Reliability and integrity in all dealings with employees, customers, and company owners. Strong commitment to customer service, both internal and external customers, treating all customers and subordinates with respect. Effective written and verbal English communication and basic math skills. Valid California Driver's License and clean driving record. Physical Requirements The physical requirements are strenuous and include: Body movements consist of standing, walking, carrying, turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending and flexing the arms, legs, wrists, and fingers. Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Standing the majority of the shift. Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be physically capable and an energetic person who is capable of performing manual labor for extended periods of time. Working Conditions Some of the work will be performed in a climate-controlled plant, with some requirement of working outside in all weather conditions that can be hot, cold, humid, rainy, snowy, or windy. May be required to drive vehicles even in inclement weather. Must adhere to company personal appearance guidelines found in the Employee Policy. Must adhere to company conduct standards, as there will be some visibility to the public and customers. Essential Functions Train and oversee all technician personnel, delegating training of new techs to appropriate team lead Consistently apply and comply with Company Policy Ensure that all personnel have and use proper safety equipment and are instructed on its use Coordinate with management and human resources support to ensure that all required documents for personnel are obtained and submitted to employee files Coordinate with management and human resources support to ensure that disciplinary and employee termination processes are correctly followed and documented Schedule work teams to cover shop hours in effect, ensure that all employees arrive on time for their assigned shifts and ensure sufficient staff to meet production demands Coordinate vacation schedules to ensure consistent and timely work production Daily open shop and start systems, implementing efficient placement of trucks for best productivity Review all job assignments, assigning them to appropriate technician, keeping them on task Meet current build minimum of 16 new units each month, carefully tracking hours per truck built Assign used truck repair jobs and schedule so as to not interfere with production Target to schedule no overtime except when absolutely necessary, pre-approving any overtime hours and ensuring they are correctly recorded Coordinate with Parts Department to ensure timely procurement of all needed parts and accessories for each job at hand Ensure the procurement of shop supplies in timely and most economical fashion Coordinate with Parts Manager on uniform and safety equipment suppliers, ensuring that technicians have uniforms and other necessary safety equipment Attend and participate in weekly production meeting Ensure that monthly safety meetings are consistently held, ensuring all technicians attend, keeping attendance records Ensure that all technicians who are to be users of forklifts have forklift certification/training and that no one uses a forklift who has not been trained and certificated Maintain working dialogue with individual technicians to ensure understanding and good morale Measures of Performance Crews are completing trucks within company guidelines All new hires are company trained in carrier and wrecker installation, meeting technical and build time requirements, within 90 days of hire. Pre-Delivery checklists are completed on all builds and signed off All crew members are Fork lift certified within 48 hours of hire Comebacks are 5% or less (excluding manufacturing defects) Warranty repairs are completed according to Warranty procedure and guidelines All Repair Orders are completed in full and signed by all customers All Used Trucks received are tested and evaluated; repair orders are written and submitted to Operations Manager within 24 hours of arrival. Holds Team Leaders accountable for performance; uses a balance of reward systems and Progressive Discipline Procedures for maximum performance Assigns tasks to ensure shop areas and yard areas are kept clean
