DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS MISSION STATEMENT

To provide the community with quality services, maintain and improve our public infrastructures and facilities, and support the preservation of Marin's unsurpassed beauty. The Senior Road Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for performing a variety of supervisory and analytical tasks which include planning, organizing, and directing road maintenance activities for a geographical area of the County, investigating and responding to public complaints and requests, participating in Pavement Management System studies, reviewing maintenance programs and conducting efficiency studies. The Senior Road Maintenance Supervisor takes an active role in performance management, coaching and staff/team development.

As our highly qualified candidate:

You are capable of leading and motivating a team of road maintenance workers within established and emerging policies, plans, and guidelines. You possess excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and diplomatic skills, approach your work with enthusiasm, employ a strong work ethic and demonstrate a commitment to safety, productivity, efficiency and equal opportunity. You must be able to exercise sound, independent judgment, have a strong knowledge of the entire maintained county road system, road maintenance policies and procedures, as well as the materials, techniques, and equipment used in road maintenance. You are proficient in all aspects of road maintenance, and are experienced in the practices, procedures, and tools associated with road maintenance tasks. You will have the ability to estimate quantities of materials, specifically, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt. Additionally, knowledge in calculating grade and grade percentages is desirable. You are a capable assistant to the Road Maintenance Superintendent to which you report, supporting the preparation of performance evaluations and performance plans, carrying out instructions and direction, analyzing not only the effectiveness of tools and current work procedures, but also the various vehicles and equipment utilized, and will make recommendations to the Superintendent. You will be able to form strong relationships with other Divisions, Departments and Agencies to achieve mutually beneficial goals and objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE OF

Methods, materials and equipment used in road maintenance work. Safe operating practices. Effective supervision and training practices and techniques. County roads and road maintenance techniques. County policies and procedures.

ABILITY TO

Train and evaluate subordinates. Prioritize work projects. Handle difficult public contact. Plan, organize, coordinate and direct road maintenance programs. Conduct surveys, collect data, analyze results and make appropriate recommendations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience equivalent to five years of experience in road maintenance, road construction or other related work, which included one year in a supervisory capacity and possession of the following knowledge and abilities. Certificates and Licenses Possession of a valid California Driver's License. Depending on the number of qualified applications received, the examination may consist of a highly qualified review, application screening, online assessment, written examination, oral examination, performance examination, or any combination to determine which candidates' names will be placed on the eligible list.

candidates selected are subject to fingerprinting by the Sheriff's Department and must pass a Department of Justice LiveScan background check prior to appointment. A pre-placement physical examination given at County expense is also required prior to appointment.

Disaster Service Workers:

All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.
