Job Description:
Full-time, year-round position responsible for coordinating and supervising the care and landscaping of campus grounds and related equipment. Serves as a working grounds maintenance supervisor fully committed to maintaining the most attractive College campus in Florida.
Work schedule:
Monday - Friday 6:30 am - 3:00 pm.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervises and schedules the work assignments of Grounds Maintenance personnel to ensure that the grounds, plant life and equipment receive appropriate care and protection. Initiates requisitions for the ordering of departmental supplies, materials, and equipment, and/or services, and submits to manager for approval. Inspects grounds and landscaping, and directs necessary repairs and maintenance activities. Supervises the upkeep and cleanliness of grounds including the planning and execution of landscaping designs. Supervises work activities of groundskeepers in the maintenance of existing irrigation systems, and designs and installs extension to this system as the need arises to accommodate additional cultivated areas. Evaluates supervised personnel in accordance with established policy; counsels employees on areas of improvement when necessary. Provides on-the-job training for departmental personnel to instruct personnel on methods or procedures to accomplish their tasks. Analyzes the overall grounds and landscaping program and recommends changes and/or submits plans for improvement. Operates edger, string trimmers, mowers, tractor, and all other landscape equipment, daily as part of the grounds maintenance team. Cooperates with other area supervisors within the Physical Plant Operations and Maintenance Department to achieve uniform and concise completion of departmental tasks. Maintains a familiarity and good working relations with all College departments and functions. Assists with College special events (including load-in and load-out of shows, set-up, clean-up, traffic control in parking lots, etc.) as needed. Records personal work time and quantities of materials used on specific jobs as directed. Contributes to unit planning, assessment, and college institutional effectiveness efforts. Acts in accordance with local, state, and federal laws/regulations as well as College policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. This is a disaster essential position.
Requirements:
Educational:
High school diploma or equivalency preferred; post-secondary certificate or degree desired.
Experiential:
At least three years of related grounds experience required, South or Central Florida plants and grasses preferred. Substantial managerial and work crew supervision experience preferred.
Other:
Position involves moderately heavy manual work, including lifting and moving heavy equipment and supplies. Possession of "Limited Lawn and Ornamental" spray license required. If not currently licensed, must receive licensure within ninety (90) days of employment.
