Overview Custodial / Maintenance Lead (Full-Time) 12-Month Position Position Summary Rowlett Academy seeks a dependable and motivated Full-Time Custodial / Maintenance Lead to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our school community. The appearance and condition of our campus play an important role in creating a positive experience for students, families, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate is punctual, reliable, detail-oriented, and takes pride in their work. This position requires someone with a positive, "can-do" attitude who is capable of performing physically demanding tasks while working both independently and as part of a team. Experience with general building maintenance, familiarity with common tools, and basic plumbing and HVAC trouble-shooting skills are required. Essential Responsibilities Custodial Responsibilities Maintain a clean, safe, and organized school environment throughout the campus. Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste properly. Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in classrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas. Dust furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces. Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and fixtures. Restock restroom supplies, including soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue. Clean interior windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces as needed. Maintain exterior areas by cleaning entrances, watering plants, mowing lawns, and performing general grounds upkeep as assigned. Assist with pest prevention using approved methods and products. Respond to urgent matters as requested by leadership to address spills and accidents. Assist with additional custodial duties such as moving furniture, lifting equipment, blowing leaves, setting up for school events, and other related tasks. Follow all school safety procedures and proper handling guidelines for cleaning chemicals and equipment. Maintenance Responsibilities Perform routine inspections of buildings, classrooms, restrooms, common areas, playgrounds, and exterior areas to identify maintenance, repair, and safety concerns. Perform basic preventative maintenance on school facilities, equipment, fixtures, doors, windows, plumbing, and other building components. Perform minor electrical repairs and maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, switches, outlets, covers, and other components when appropriate and within the employee's level of training and authorization. Perform minor plumbing repairs, including repairing faucets, toilets, sinks, drains, and other plumbing fixtures; identify leaks and report larger plumbing issues. Perform minor carpentry and general handyman repairs, including repairing doors, cabinets, shelving, furniture, trim, walls, and other building components. Repair, adjust, and maintain door hardware, locks, hinges, closers, handles, and other related hardware. Replace ceiling tiles and perform minor drywall, patching, caulking, painting, and touch-up work as needed. Inspect and maintain interior and exterior lighting and report electrical or lighting problems requiring specialized service. Assist with the maintenance and inspection of HVAC systems, including changing filters, keeping vents clear, monitoring temperature concerns, and reporting HVAC problems to leadership or appropriate service providers. Assist with maintaining and monitoring fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, exit signs, and other safety equipment and promptly report deficiencies. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on school equipment, tools, fixtures, and furnishings. Maintain and organize maintenance tools, supplies, equipment, and storage areas. Maintain inventory of commonly used maintenance and custodial supplies and notify leadership when supplies need to be reordered. Assist with preparation and completion of work orders and maintain records of completed maintenance tasks. Coordinate with outside contractors and service providers as directed by school leadership and provide access to facilities when needed. Assist with campus preparation for special events, including setting up and taking down tables, chairs, equipment, signage, and other items. Assist with emergency facility needs, including water leaks, power outages, weather-related issues, and other urgent maintenance situations. Monitor campus grounds and outdoor facilities for damaged fencing, gates, sidewalks, playground equipment, drainage issues, irrigation problems, and other concerns. Perform basic grounds maintenance, including trimming, blowing leaves and debris, maintaining landscaping areas, and assisting with irrigation as assigned. Identify potential hazards and take appropriate action to protect students, staff, and visitors until repairs can be completed. Report major maintenance issues, structural concerns, electrical problems, plumbing issues, equipment failures, or safety hazards promptly to school leadership. Complete maintenance tasks independently when appropriate and request assistance or professional service when a repair is outside the scope of the position. General Responsibilities Secure buildings by locking doors, closing windows, and setting alarms when required. Maintain accurate communication with school leadership regarding custodial, maintenance, and safety concerns. Follow applicable safety regulations, manufacturer instructions, and school policies when using tools, equipment, chemicals, and maintenance materials. Perform other related duties as assigned by school leadership. Qualifications Previous custodial, maintenance, janitorial, facilities, or handyman experience is preferred Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment, products, and custodial procedures. Basic knowledge of common building maintenance practices, tools, equipment, and repair techniques. Understanding of safe handling and disposal of cleaning chemicals and hazardous materials. Familiarity with basic building maintenance, landscaping, or handyman skills is helpful. Ability to safely use common hand tools and power tools appropriate to assigned duties. Ability to troubleshoot basic facility and equipment problems and determine when professional assistance is required. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment. Dependable with excellent attendance and punctuality. Ability to work independently and manage assigned responsibilities as well as collaborate with the Custodial team. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with leadership, teammates, staff, students, and visitors. Must be able to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, and carrying throughout the workday. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. Compensation Starting Pay:
$16.00 per hour and based on experience and skillset $3,000
Annual Referendum Bonus Pay:
$35,384.00 - $43,480.00 per year
