Job Description

We're hiring a Chief Engineer for Hotel Eastport in The Villages, FL!! Bring your skills, leadership, and a can-do attitude to work with and lead our maintenance team. Your expertise as Chief Engineer/Security, will make a lasting impact to provide guests with a secure, comfortable environment by maintaining the hotel's assets through ongoing preventative maintenance and ensuring that all mechanical systems are operating in accordance with Hotel Eastport standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Duties and responsibilities for this position include the following; Assist in the assessment of training needs, planning of training courses, and presentation of training courses. Train and instruct other members of the staff by passing along your knowledge and skills. In addition, utilize resources from outside vendors and sources, assist them in their development and further advance your own. Participate in training as directed by Management. Set an example of continuous self-development. Manage, repair and maintain project and building improvements be effectively coordinating and planning all tasks in advance of beginning any project. Utilize all possible resources. Coordinate efforts with Engineering and other affect departments. Use project management techniques along with the appropriately assigned engineering team members to perform project planning and execution. All methods, materials and practices must meet and be in accordance with local codes, national codes and standard practices. Keep accurate completion and task records in the project files. Materials procurement and coordination of their availability are also critical to the success of your position. Our goal is to cost-effectively maximize the schedule. Hotel Eastport functions seven days a week, 24 hours a day. All associates must realist this fact and be aware that at time it may be necessary to move associates from their accustomed shifts as business demands. In addition, it is understood that business determines the amount of hours that are worked. Oversee the daily operations of the Hotel Eastport Engineering Department. Plan and schedule daily work load, oversee assignments and follow-up. Collect and assign maintenance requests. Conduct inspections of physical plant and all public areas. Direct day-to-day work of facility maintenance and repairs. Provide direct supervision and follow-up of Engineering Team. Implement, oversee, and schedule preventive maintenance programs. Conduct supervisor and safety meetings on a regular basis. Assure the compliance with all local and state rules and regulations (safety and personal protection requirements). Prepare payroll, capital and operating budget. Qualifications Extensive knowledge of building trades; electrical, mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing and general building practices. This includes knowledge/experience in ACU, AHU, and MUA. Knowledge of life safety systems. Knowledge of facility regulations and safety standards (OSHA, EPA, ADA, CFC, NFPA). Strong project management skills. Knowledge of purchasing, inventory, controls, supplies and equipment. Knowledge of overall hotel operations as they affect the department. Working knowledge of hotel laws governing operations. Strong organizational skills. Ability to effectively manage labor productivity. Ability to use standard software applications and hotel systems. Strategic planning skills. Ability to creatively execute against the strategy and drive results; can originate and invent new ways to create a unique guest experience and maximize revenue. Strong problem-solving skills; encourage new innovative solutions when appropriate. Strong communication skills (verbal, listening, writing). Hours and days worked will be based on business needs and determined by the Hotel. Educational/Experience Requirements High School Certificate plus two years technical training or two years college or four years of experience. Five years of experience as an Engineering Mechanic. Have and maintain a valid driver's license; other licenses that may be required. This position requires proficiency in any three of the following categories, above average skills in three or more of the following categories and basic skills in the remaining categories. Supervisory Responsibilities No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. May provide informal assistance such as technical guidance and/or portfolio specific training to co-workers. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before guests or associates of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to perform addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts or percentages. Reasoning Skills Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk and run. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. This position requires prolonged hand and wrist movement/usage. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and regularly push/pull carts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
