Job Overview GenCo Generators is seeking an experienced Generator Sales & Service Technician for a unique hybrid position combining in-home sales, generator service, preventative maintenance, and residential site assessments. This position is ideal for an experienced generator professional who is technically strong, communicates well with homeowners, and enjoys variety. You will work directly with customers to evaluate generator needs, conduct site assessments, diagnose and service existing systems, perform scheduled maintenance, and identify appropriate products, repairs, and system upgrades. We are looking for someone who can combine technical expertise with excellent customer service and the ability to recognize and close legitimate sales opportunities. Responsibilities Conduct in-home site assessments for residential standby generator installations, evaluating generator placement, electrical requirements, fuel requirements, transfer switch location, and overall installation conditions. Meet directly with homeowners, explain available generator and installation options, prepare recommendations, and assist customers in making informed purchasing decisions. Follow up on sales opportunities and work with customers through the decision-making process. Perform preventative maintenance on residential standby generators in accordance with manufacturer requirements and company procedures. Perform generator service calls, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs. Diagnose generator, transfer switch, electrical, fuel-system, battery, charging, and related operational issues. Perform complete system inspections and identify existing or developing problems that should be addressed. Identify legitimate opportunities for additional products and services, including system upgrades, electrical improvements, surge protection, generator accessories, monitoring equipment, and other solutions that improve reliability or protect the customer's equipment. Clearly explain technical findings, recommended repairs, maintenance needs, and upgrade options to homeowners in an understandable and professional manner. Accurately document site assessments, service calls, maintenance visits, diagnostic findings, recommendations, and work performed using company software and required checklists. Maintain an organized service vehicle and ensure necessary tools, diagnostic equipment, commonly used parts, and materials are available and properly maintained. Maintain a professional appearance and provide a high level of customer service while working in customers' homes and on their property. Follow all company safety procedures, manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and established service and installation standards. Work collaboratively with sales, installation, service, permitting, and office personnel to ensure a smooth customer experience from initial assessment through installation and ongoing service. Qualifications Minimum of two years of active Generac certification and experience required. Minimum of two years of hands-on experience servicing, diagnosing, and maintaining residential standby generators. Strong working knowledge of Generac residential standby generators, automatic transfer switches, controllers, electrical systems, and related components. Ability to independently troubleshoot and diagnose generator and transfer switch problems. Ability to conduct residential site assessments and recognize electrical, fuel, placement, access, and installation requirements. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to confidently interact with homeowners and explain technical information in clear, understandable terms. Comfortable discussing products, repairs, upgrades, and installation options with customers and asking for the sale when appropriate. Strong customer-service mindset with a professional appearance and demeanor. Ability to work independently, manage multiple appointments, and accurately complete required documentation. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of field service work, including lifting equipment and materials, working outdoors, bending, kneeling, and working in varying weather conditions.
