Pay Range:

$38.02 - $61.88 per hour Rush salaries are determined by many factors including, but not limited to, education, job-related experience and skills, as well as internal equity and industry specific market data. Summary:

The Senior Equipment Planner serves as the system-level subject matter expert for medical equipment planning, capital equipment strategy, and clinical technology integration across Rush University System for Health. Reporting to the System Director of Clinical Engineering, this role partners closely with Projects, Design, and Construction (PDC) to support new construction, renovation, replacement, and strategic capital initiatives. This position leads the planning, validation, standardization, budgeting, procurement coordination, and implementation readiness of medical equipment across assigned capital projects. The role ensures clinical equipment decisions align with patient care models, facility design, infrastructure requirements, lifecycle replacement strategies, regulatory expectations, financial stewardship, and enterprise standards. The Senior Equipment Planner functions as a strategic advisor and operational bridge among Clinical Engineering, PDC, Supply Chain, IT, Finance, clinical departments, architects, engineers, contractors, and equipment vendors. The role uses asset data, utilization trends, service history, equipment age, standardization opportunities, and project requirements to identify capital avoidance, asset redeployment, replacement prioritization, rental reduction, and lifecycle optimization opportunities.

Required Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Business, Supply Chain, Nursing, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in healthcare medical equipment planning, clinical engineering, healthcare technology management, capital projects, design/construction coordination, or healthcare operations.
• Experience supporting medical equipment planning for construction, renovation, relocation, major replacement, or technology refresh projects.
• Strong understanding of hospital operations, clinical workflows, medical equipment infrastructure requirements, healthcare technology lifecycle management, and capital budgeting.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary stakeholders through complex planning, decision-making, and implementation processes.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and project documentation tools.
• Strong presentation, written communication, facilitation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
• Experience in an academic medical center, multi-hospital health system, or complex healthcare construction environment.
• Knowledge of CMMS platforms, medical equipment databases, capital planning systems, BIM/Revit coordination, equipment planning software, or healthcare project management tools.
• PMP, CHC, CCE, CBET, Lean Six Sigma, or comparable certification.
• Experience developing enterprise equipment standards, room templates, lifecycle replacement plans, capital prioritization tools, or equipment governance processes.
• Familiarity with Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, FDA, HIPAA, cybersecurity, infection prevention, and other healthcare regulatory considerations affecting medical equipment.

Physical Demands:

• Primarily office, hybrid, and project-site work as operationally required.
• Ability to participate in site walks, design reviews, user group meetings, mockups, construction coordination meetings, and activation planning sessions.
• Ability to review equipment documentation, drawings, cut sheets, schedules, budgets, and project materials for extended periods.
• May require movement through active healthcare, construction, renovation, temporary, or relocation areas in accordance with applicable safety and infection prevention requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Lead system-level medical equipment planning for major capital projects, renovations, expansions, relocations, and enterprise technology initiatives.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive equipment plans, budgets, schedules, equipment assumptions, and decision logs from early programming through activation.
• Serve as the primary Clinical Engineering equipment planning liaison to PDC for design, construction, procurement, installation, and operational readiness activities.
• Translate clinical operational needs into equipment requirements that support workflow, safety, regulatory compliance, infrastructure coordination, serviceability, and long-term maintainability.
• Develop recommendations for equipment reuse, replacement, standardization, redeployment, or retirement based on asset condition, utilization, age, service history, risk, and project scope.
• Support long-range capital planning by aligning project equipment needs with Rush clinical technology lifecycle priorities and enterprise standardization strategy.
• Participate in capital project planning, design reviews, user group meetings, mockups, drawing reviews, construction coordination meetings, and activation planning.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and vendors to ensure equipment requirements are accurately reflected in drawings, specifications, schedules, budgets, and infrastructure plans.
• Review room-by-room equipment lists, cut sheets, vendor drawings, placement plans, utility requirements, structural support needs, IT/data dependencies, medical gas requirements, electrical requirements, and installation constraints.
• Identify issues related to equipment placement, workflow, maintainability, service access, infection prevention, safety, and constructability.
• Partner with BIM, design, and construction teams to support accurate equipment placement, coordination, clash identification, and infrastructure planning when applicable.
• Support change management by evaluating equipment-related changes for impacts to budget, schedule, infrastructure, procurement, and operational readiness.
• Leverage Clinical Engineering inventory data, CMMS information, capital planning tools, utilization data, vendor information, and financial data to support evidence-based equipment decisions.
• Identify opportunities to defer purchases, validate purchase quantities, reduce unnecessary rentals, redeploy existing equipment, retire underutilized assets, and avoid duplicative capital spending.
• Track and report capital avoidance, operational savings, redeployed assets, avoided rentals, replacement prioritization outcomes, and other measurable value created through equipment planning.
• Support equipment standardization across Rush facilities to improve purchasing leverage, serviceability, cybersecurity readiness, staff familiarity, parts availability, and total cost of ownership.
• Partner with Finance and Supply Chain to support budget development, purchase timing, quote validation, vendor review, procurement sequencing, and cost tracking.
• Facilitate collaborative equipment planning sessions with clinical leaders, operational leaders, PDC, IT, Supply Chain, Infection Prevention, Facilities, Finance, and external partners.
• Present recommendations, capital impacts, project risks, and decision points to department leaders, project teams, and executive stakeholders.
• Develop governance tools, reporting structures, templates, dashboards, and decision frameworks to improve consistency across capital equipment planning.
• Mentor Equipment Planners and provide technical guidance on planning standards, project documentation, stakeholder communication, and capital planning processes.
• Coordinate procurement, delivery, receiving, staging, installation, testing, acceptance, asset tagging, and go-live readiness activities with Clinical Engineering, PDC, Supply Chain, IT, vendors, and operations.
• Ensure equipment planning deliverables are aligned with construction milestones, procurement lead times, vendor installation requirements, and activation schedules.
• Support project closeout activities, including final inventory validation, warranty information, service documentation, and lessons learned.
