Primary Purpose:
This position is responsible for providing safe and reliable high voltage electrical service throughout the ComEd Transmission Service Territory which contains 5400 circuit miles of high voltage lines that are 69kV and above. This position also is responsible and accountable for the T&S Service Organization that provides the support function to the ComEd Transmission and Distribution Organizations. This position is responsible for customer satisfaction related to service, quality, reliability, workmanship, and overall responsiveness for the following customers: distribution, generation, interconnects, and large manufactures. Oversees the design, construction, maintenance, and field operation of the electric transmission and distribution systems. Directs and participates in the formulation of regional strategic objectives, budgets and capital expenditures, expense authorizations and management of employee activities. Manages and directs the coordination and execution of the Transmission Construction and Maintenance work plan. Develops and implements effective strategic and tactical business and labor initiatives that are linked to business goals and objectives. Develops and maintains an environment that promotes employee safety, diversity and high productivity. Departmental activities include the planning, scheduling and the execution of engineering, construction, maintenance, and emergent response of high voltage transmission lines and associated components for transmission overhead and underground lines. Manages and directs the T&S Service Organization which provides the ComEd Transmission and Distribution Organization with a support function that performs corrective and preventive maintenance and operating activities on specialized equipment, such as generators, oil processing units, emergency portable equipment, and portable substations. Assembled and maintain the spare transformers assets of large substation transformers. Oversees the operation of the Chemical Laboratory operations, which provides laboratory testing and services on hydraulic fluids. Directs and manages a diverse staff of employees (management and craft) and contractors that are mostly represented through a collective bargaining agreement. Overall responsible for employee development, safety, reliability, customer satisfaction, and financial results. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.
Primary Duties:
Drives and oversees the development and implementation of short and long term strategic and tactical business and labor initiatives designed to assure the highest levels of customer services and to achieve Exelon's and ComEd's safety, reliability and performance goals. Assures timely response to storms and other system emergencies. (30%) Manage the overall Transmission Service budget including contractor expenditures. Monitor, influence and re-direct capital and O&M expenses to assure budget compliance while achieving business goals and objectives. Consistent with annual Utility/Department/Region scorecard metrics. Manages the regional budget. Establishes and monitors business plans and business unit objectives. Balances cost control with appropriate capital and maintenance investments. (30%) Develops and maintains an environment that fosters a high-performance culture and a learning organization. Leads the management team in promoting diversity. Serves as a change agent for business initiatives and assures the human element is understood and considered. Assures timely recognition of employee contributions. Develops methods to assess communication effectiveness and implement continuous improvement initiatives. (15%) Provides leadership to and development of the management team. Provides accurate and timely feedback regarding performance and operations. Conducts performance planning and appraisals. Identifies opportunities for growth and learning. Facilitates open and honest communication with staff. Assures that upward communication is integrated into the process, including employee concerns and complaints. (15%) Establishes, maintains and improves relationships with other departments in Exelon, the regional operating companies and the local communities. (10%)
Job Scope:
Responsible for the electric transmission and substation assets covering a service territory of 11,000 square miles including 3.6 million customers. Responsible for executing a collective bargaining agreement, implementing labor strategies, and negotiating elevated grievance hearings and arbitrations. Responsible for sponsoring and justifying capital improvement projects and then executing and supporting approved substation projects of $6
  • $8 million per year. Provides input into maintenance planning and is responsible for executing $13
  • $15 million of preventive, corrective, and reliability maintenance expenditures associated with over 5,350 miles of overhead transmission assets or 390 underground transmission assets and support for 840 Transmission and Distribution Substations.
Responsible for executing the oil processing of substation transformers and the maintenance of emergency generators located at critical facilities. Responsible for analyzing oil in a laboratory environment to determine the material condition and integrity of substation and transmission equipment. Responsible for the oil stewardship as it pertains to deciding what oil to use, training the organization on processing and filling equipment, and maintaining storage facilities, tankers and oil processing equipment. Responsible for the environmental stewardship of substation equipment and facilities in an effort to minimize the impact on the surrounding community and natural resources. Responsible for the organization's response to emergent activities, catastrophic events and storms. Responsible for the substation maintenance associated with ten Exelon Nuclear Power Plants and other non-Exelon generating plants. This includes emergency & planned outage support of electrical equipment and relays internal to the Exelon plants. Actions have direct impact on safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction goals, the transmission revenue stream, the generation revenue stream of Exelon, and the public, political, and regulatory opinion of the company. Establishes performance goals and expectations, coaches, mentors and provides feedback to direct reports. Maintains effective internal business controls by conducting audits, self-assessments, investigations and employee reviews. Builds strategic alignment with senior management, Exelon Nuclear & key management peers (DSO, TSO, C&M, P&CM, AM&E), T&S associates and union leadership. Other external contacts include co-generation and other key customers, substation equipment vendors, regulators, auditors and various municipal authorities (fire, police, city mayors, etc).

M Minimum Qualifications:
Education
  • bachelor's degree in engineering, Business Administration, or related field. Experience
  • At least 12 years of industry experience, including at least 5 years in an electric T&D supervisory and/or managerial position.
In lieu of degree, 15-20 years of relevant experience.
Certifications/Licenses:
Valid driver's license Knowledge
  • Demonstrated knowledge of T&D operating, maintenance & construction work practices, utility collective bargaining agreements and understanding of regulatory issues.
Skills:
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, build consensus, establish trust, and foster culture change. Demonstrated ability to support and enforce safe work behaviors; this requires working knowledge of safety rules and work practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education
  • Graduate degree or Graduate Level work in Engineering, Business Administration or related field. Experience

Benefits:
Annual salary will vary based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $188,000.00/Yr.
